I smell turkey in the air and cranberry sauce on the table. November is here and we have put together a feast for all of you. We have a new Pacific Fruit Exchange (PFE) sheet that has everything you need to create your own PFE Box Cars. If you are a fan of "Hell on Wheels" the TV show you might be surprised to know that the character Thomas C. Durant in the show is a portrayal of the actual Thomas C Durant Union Pacific VP in 1863. We have also created short lines for Western Pacific (TS) & (SN) Caboose and Steam Locomotive sheets. In addition, we created a new "Hazardous Materials" decal sheet, Genesee Wyoming Operators sheet and a New Haven assorted Boxcar, Hoppers & Flat decals.

So you can see we have laid out a feast...so dig in and enjoy!

Happy Modeling!

Pacific Fruit Express Roundup

By Chris Palomarez

PFE 11207 from the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Association

With the 87-1430 and 60-1430 1960-1978 Ice PFE Reefer decal set, and the series about PFE in Model Railroad Hobbyist by Tony Thompson, a listing of the existing sets is in order to present the modeling possibilities. It is important to note along with this month's 87-1430, sets 87-501, 87-1341, and 87-1357 are brand new research and artwork. These sets allow for modeling PFE from the 1950s to the 1978 split-up accurately.

Ice 40' 1950-1960

Tony Thompson's blog is a great resource for more information beyond the series in Model Railroad Hobbyist. Tony does some great modeling how-to's as well and really is helpful for developing a PFE fleet of your own.

Another resource is trainlife.com and their large archive of Railmodel Journal and Prototype Modeler. PFE Wood Reefers Part I, Pacific Fruit Express R-30-13, PFE Wood-Sheathed Steel End Reefers, PFE 40-Foot R-40-23 Reefers, and 57-Foot Mechanical Refrigerator Cars.

The Union Pacific also posted an abbreviated history of the PFE on their timeline.
