Members, Friends and Neighbors,
As the days are getting longer and the sun is getting warmer we at Naromi are planning the details of our spring calendar.  There are events for everyone.  Keep your eyes on our events page for more details on all our goings-on.

We also look forward to the annual CLCC conference. This conference is the premiere training event in Connecticut for land trust Board members and conservation professionals organized by the CT Land Conservation Council. Several Board members and NLT staff are attending this year's conference.

Salamander Walk April 12 at 8 PM
Walk to the vernal pool nestled between the double hilltop to view the salamanders activity the night of the first warm rain in April. Reservations for this hike are required because the group will be going out at night in light rain. Flashlights, rain gear, boots are a must.  This hike is scheduled for April 12th, but will be based on conditions, so may be actually on a different night.  Send us an email at [email protected] to let us know if you are interested.

Bear Program THIS Sunday at 1:30 PM

Bear Reminders - Keep in mind that the black bears are not after people; attacks are almost non-existent. Most often a bear will move on when it sees a person - but - like many people and our pets - they may want to finish their meal if they are interrupted; e.g. eat all the seed in your feeder before leaving the yard.

  • DO remove bird-feeders and bird food from late March through November.
  • DO eliminate food attractants by keeping garbage cans inside a closed garage or shed. Add ammonia to trash to make it unpalatable.
  • DO clean and store grills away after use.
  • DON'T intentionally feed bears. Bears that become accustomed to finding food near your home may become "problem" bears.
  • DON'T leave pet food outside overnight.
  • DON'T add meat or sweets to a compost pile.
A simple saying applies, "A fed bear is a dead bear."

Filing Volunteer
Naromi is looking for a volunteer to assist in certain office tasks including filing.  This will be several hours each month.  We are flexible as to whether these hours are all at once or an hour each week.

If you are interested, please email [email protected] and let us know if you have any experience and why you are interested in volunteering.
