Thank you to all of you who joined us at the Shepaug Eagle Watch.  It was a lucky day to visit the Shepaug Dam because Audubon was there with some of their ambassador birds including the Barn Owl above and Phantom, a peregrine falcon.  It is with sorrow that we note the death of Phantom, who died shortly after that day.  Phantom was almost 24 years old  Read more here.  Many thanks to John O'Donnell for photos of Audubon's ambassador birds.

Now that the ground is covered in a thick layer of snow, mark your calendar for a snowshoe excursion to Hadlow Preserve on 2/14/15.

Looks like there will be snow on the ground on Saturday, so bring your sweetie and your snowshoes for a trek around Hadlow fields and beyond. Meet on Saturday 2/14/15 at 1 PM at the Hadlow gate on Cozier Hill Road (across from Woods Road). Remember to dress warmly as those fields are very exposed!

Salamander Walk 2014
Salamander Walk - We are beginning to collect names and email for anyone interested in coming on a nighttime hike to see the spring dance of salamanders. The walk will be at night and with only a day or two notice - only after the snow melts.  It was a great time last year and promises to a lot of fun this year again.  Let us know by return email if you are interested.  Play the video to enjoy the sounds of a spring night.

Bear Reality - On Sunday March 15th Felicia Ortner is giving her "Bear Reality" talk for FrOGS at the Trinity Pawling School in Pawling NY.  Felicia delivered this presentation at the JCC sponsored by Naromi the last two years.  Be sure to attend if you missed those events.

The Sky's the Limit" 2015 Hiking ChallengeParticipants in the competition have the opportunity to receive a medallion for hiking up 10 designated locations.  For hiking up all 14 designated high peaks, 50 families will receive a hiking staff.  Names will be drawn from all who completed the 14 designated hikes on January 1, 2016.  More details and the list of designated peaks.
