Members, Neighbors and Friends,
Come out tomorrow, June 15, to the dedication of the Harlem Valley Appalachian Trail Community, starting at noon.  There will be activities for kids & families and hikes, exhibits at 2 (including Naromi's table - stop by to say hello!), and the official dedication will be at 4.  Naromi is an active member of this community.  Scroll down for more info.

Mark your calendar for our Annual Meeting on July 12.  We will feature an interesting presentation and a short business meeting to report on Naromi's activities over the past fiscal year.  We will announce the subject soon.
Sometimes trees eat signs!

Sherman Steps Up Volunteer Fair!
Come out to hike the Mallory trail and enjoy music, food and the company of good friends and neighbors at the Community Picnic, Concert, & Volunteer Fair on June 29th, from 11-2.  Come learn about volunteer opportunities with the many town commissions and community organizations that make Sherman a vibrant and livable community.

Mile-a-Minute Vine

Mile-a-minute weed has recently been confirmed in two new towns in Connecticut, New Haven and Farmington.  A single vine was found in each town and removed.  Additional surveys are being planned to determine how widespread the occurrences are.  This invasive annual vine has now been confirmed in 34 towns in the state.

Be on the lookout for mile-a-minute and report any suspect plants via the CT Invasive Plant Working Group website.  Additional information on mile-a-minute, including an updated distribution map can also be found on the website.  Check out Naromi's website for more invasive plant resources.

Black Bears

The black bear population in our area is on the rise and sightings are bcoming more and more commonplace.  Naromi, along with the JCC, hosted an educational presentation about black bears in April.  For those of you who did not attend, or who would like a refresher, check out the information on CT Dept. of Energy & Environmental Protection's website or print out their fact sheet
Trails Day 2013
Naromi is celebrated CT Trails Day on June 1 & 2.  CT Trails Day is a statewide event organized by Connecticut Forest & Park Association.
It was a brutally hot weekend, but a few hikers came out on Saturday to hike the AT and a crew worked for all of Sunday afternoon at the Brookland Preserve.  Thanks to Chris Jellen and Marge Josephson for leading the weekend and to Stan Greenbaum, and John and Masumi O'Donnell for all their hard work.  The crew released the Batchelder Glade plaque from barberry.  It is a dedication to one of Naromi's founders Lois Batchelder.
