The Journey is Our Home
Please, celebrate me home, Give me a number,
Please, celebrate me home Play me one more song,
That I'll always remember, And I can recall,
Whenever I find myself too all alone, I can sing me home.
Kenny Loggins
Some will remember Kenny Loggin's Christmas song,
"Please Celebrate Me Home." Haunting and filled with yearning, the song speaks of the hunger that is within us all to come home. As philosopher Pascal reflects, "There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every person which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus." As we become like Jesus, we come to know the yearning as a gift that nurtures our relationship with God in Christ.
We come to understand that we share a call to bear Christ into a world that is dislocated and displaced by change. Marjorie Zoet Bankson defines call as "an invitation to wholeness, a spiritual prompting to complete the work of love that we are here to do." She invites us to explore God's call to build the new through a cycle that includes:
- Resistance: What are the patterns of resistance in your life right now? What do these patterns have to tell you about call?
- Reclaiming: In reclaiming, we seek the form behind our skills - the original seed of call, the DNA of our souls. Reclaiming is not simply a process of reminiscence but of observation and action. What essential part of you is God calling you to reclaim?
- Revelation: It happens in the cusp between kairos and chronos time; it brings with it ambivalence and uncertainty, possibility and potential danger. This is the way of new vision being born. What has God revealed to your heart?
- Crossing Over: True revelation demands a response. It demands a "crossing over," coupled with a willingness to be changed, healed, and expanded as we confront the barriers between belief and embodiment. To cross over we must confront our fears. To what must you attend in order to cross over?
- Risk: Deep within us is planted the seed of new creation - dreams for a better world and wild hope that our visions can be realized. We need to act to make our dreams real. Risk is the courage to change. Risk requires that we be willing to fail as well as succeed, to be wrong as well as to be right. What is God calling you to risk?
- Relate: Call cannot be fully manifested without community. A community that takes God's call seriously understands the importance of shared purpose. Yet developing such community is neither easy nor orderly. To whom do you relate?
- Release: Completing the cycle of soul work means integration, endings, and release. Release calls for generativity as we give call away and begin the cycle anew. Release is a stage of rest and listening. Learning when to let go and when to hang on is the essence of release. What aspect of your present call is God asking you to release in order to live forward?
Even as the cry of our hearts is to "please, celebrate me home," we know that we are called to be Christ for the world and make the journey our home. The early church father Augustine assures us, "Ask not where our home is, because in the end we all come home to God."
Blessings as you make the journey your home!
 Debbie Rundlett General Presbyter

Holy Habit: Stewardship of Self
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is true worship.
-Romans 12:1
Stewardship of self begins with recognizing that everything we have and everything we are comes as a gift from God. God's intention is that we are to live our lives as "living sacrifices," but the powers of seduction would have us deny God's call. Rather than living out of the abundance of God, we come to live out of a sense of scarcity. Selfishness replaces sacrifice. Anxiousness replaces joy. The full use of our spiritual gifts is thwarted. No longer are we growing in maturity in Christ. Ultimately, the practice of stewardship reveals what is in our heart. The heart of worship is to seek to know and love God with the whole of our lives. The apostle Paul reminds us that true worship is the offering of our very selves.
Come before God with an open heart and listening ear.
- Ponder the question, "What do I value most?" Then answer the question from the perspective of those closest to you, and then from the perspective of God. What do you learn about yourself through their eyes? What did you learn about yourself through God's eyes?
- In what ways does your life reflect "true worship" born of offering yourself as a "living sacrifice"?
- In what ways, do you find that you have failed to fully worship God? How might what you worship need to change?
Prayer for the Journey
Life is a journey with others;
We travel as a people, on a winding road.
We share our lives, our experiences, our hopes, our fears.
With joy and hope, we welcome other travelers to share our lives.
We learn from each other.
We laugh and cry with each other.
We are at home with each other.
Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes.
There are those who arrive to be with us
There are those who move ahead of us beyond death.
Both in the laying-hold and letting-go we celebrate God's goodness.
We affirm the Spirit's presence in the journey, in being home.
Blessings and Birthings

Attention MVP Clerks of Session:
2013 Session Statistical Report and Clerk's Annual Questionnaire are now available!
"It's the most wonderful time of the year!" And for the Clerks of Session of MVP's congregations, this means that it's time for 2013 reports to be prepared and filed with denominational staff in Louisville.
A software issue that had threatened to delay the opening of the online filing system into January has been fixed and is now open. The 2013 statistical report form and accompanying instructions can be downloaded from the website of the Office of the General Assembly (http://oga.pcusa.org/stats).
Both experienced and new session clerks should read through the instructions and the new FAQ section before starting to fill in the form. This will help answer most if not all of the questions about completion and submission of the statistical report. Additional help is available by contacting MVP Mission Coordinator Candice McMath here at the MVP Mission Center (330-339-5515).
Please remember that since this annual statistical report is a report of the session, the completed report cannot be filed before it has been reviewed and approved by the session (not the congregation), as soon as possible after December 31, 2013.
The Clerk's Annual Questionnaire is available on the same web site as listed above and provides important information for the denominational research staff. This is does not need to be approved by the session or congregation before it is submitted. Again, questions about this form can be answered by contacting Candice.
Copies of the completed Session Statistical Report and Clerk's Annual Questionnaire should be retained as part of the congregation's records. It is not necessary that copies be filed with the MVP Mission Center. For those session clerks who do not have internet access, draft reports and questionnaires can be mailed to the MVP Mission Center and will be filed on their behalf.
Last year there was considerable confusion about the completion and submission of these important reports and questionnaires. We apologize for this and anticipate a much smoother process this time. Our goal is a 100% completion / filing rate this year. Although no prizes will be awarded, we ask for the cooperation of every session clerk in our presbytery in this reporting process.

Prayer Requests/Updates
-
It is with heavy hearts that we request prayers for the Cureton family, and announce the passing of Mary Cureton. Mary went to be with her Savior yesterday, December 17, 2013. She was the wife of Rev. Charles Cureton (HR) and they attended First Presbyterian Church of Wooster, where Charles continues to serve as parish associate.
A memorial service has been scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church in Wooster. All are invited to attend. (Photo credit/courtesy of Jon Carlisle)
- We are saddened to announce the passing of G. Kenneth Shafer (HR) and request prayers for his family. Kenneth went to be with his Savior on Christmas morning, December 25, 2013. Kenneth was ordained in 1954 and served multiple churches in many synods. More information will be shared with the Presbytery regarding services as it becomes available.
- Please remember Pleasant Hill Outdoor Camp in your prayers. This prayer request is for clear direction and wisdom from the Lord as they move forward with preparations to build a home for the director and his family and as they prepare for 2014 summer camps.
If you or someone you know has a prayer request,
please send them to Candice at
