Resurrection blessings!
It seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.
Luke 1:3-4
One of the unexpected gifts of Taekwondo is to hear the wisdom of wise theologians. Such was the case last week, when 9 year-old Tiara asked 13 year-old Taylor why we call the Friday on which Jesus was crucified "good." Taylor, being older and wiser, immediately had a response.
"Well," she replied, "It wouldn't be called good if Jesus had not risen from the dead on Easter Sunday. Then, it would have been just bad. But, because of his resurrection, we can call it good."
She then continued to explain how the Romans crucified not just Jesus, but real criminals like the two who hung on either side of Jesus. And, then, best of all, she pointed Tiara to the scriptures, telling her to read them because it was all there! Theopilus would have been pleased!
Throughout this theological reflection, I carefully kept my head bent over my knee for an extended stretch. I did not want to draw attention or unintentionally end the conversation before Taylor was finished with her exposition on Jesus' death and resurrection. It was really quite remarkable... and very powerful!
So, people of the resurrection, my question to you is how will you in this season of resurrection give testimony to the faith that is within you? How will you not only remember Jesus' death, but claim the power of resurrection in your person and your living?
Today is Easter Sunday! I count it as both privilege and joy to serve with you. Together we are called to make disciples, nurture faith, and serve the needs of the community. May it begin with our testimony to the power of resurrection.
Resurrection blessings to you all!
With love in Christ,
