What's New This Week?
 
Volunteer Callout
YWCA is having a volunteer callout, Wednesday, July 10th from 6 - 7pm in the YWCA large conference room at 605 N. 6th Street. Looking for volunteers to do:
  • Answer crisis hotline
  • Work in children's program
  • Assist with outreach events
  • Make a meal for shelter residents
  • Do clothing drive or 9-1-1 phone drive
  • Paint a room
  • Clean and spruce up yard
  • Sort donations
  • Assist with translations
  • Enter statistics into database
  • Assist with office work
  • Organize a clothing drive

Office Help
SouthernCare is a Hospice company that provides palliative care to patients that are terminally ill. Our staff could use some help keeping up on the daily office duties. Have you been trying to get a job in the administrative field, but keep hearing that the job was given to somebody with more work experience? Let us be your experience! Youth Volunteer Opportunities 
The United Way Leaders of Tomorrow Program still have 5 available spots left for youth 11 -15 & 16 - 18 to volunteer in July. Agencies they would volunteer with are:

Right Steps Child Development Center - Dennis Burton
Right Steps Child Development Center - East
United Way Kindergarten Camp at Miller Elementary School

Volunteer Comment:

 

"The students benefited from having another adult interested in their education and their lives. It allowed the teacher to split the reading groups into smaller groups to allow for more specific instruction for students. We also pulled kids out individually to read and do vocab words - which helped them a lot."

 

Teacher Comment:  

 

"We used our volunteers as an extra reading intervention during the middle of our year. Many students improved significantly."

Leaders of Tomorrow is a youth service-learning program to encourage young people between the ages of 11 to 15 and 16 to 18 to become involved and aware of citizens in the community through volunteering.
