Eileen and Dave had a great home. Now was the time
to make it work better for this active family of five.

Image: BeforeStorage was the main focus for this renovation. While the color palette was left over from the previous owners, the furniture was a carry-over from their earlier home.

To make the fireplace a feature wall, we added a striking Peacock Blue paint. It made the fireplace stand out so much that friends asked “Is the fireplace new?”

Bookshelves added personality to the room and were a great spot for family photos and treasures from school or trips, while the closed storage provided additional function to the room.

The window treatments not only softened the opposite long wall—they also gave height to the windows. To connect the space with the rest of the room we chose a pattern for the drapes that echoed the texture of the lamps, visually linking the space.

Meanwhile the patterned, light colored carpet added character to the floor. This carpet was especially chosen with a young family in mind, as today's carpets are stain resistant and very kid friendly.

To complete the look we added a more cozy seating arrangement and made space for friends and family to gather.

Design Tip: To give your shelves a timeless feel, group
photos and books with a few keepsakes, then add (vintage) bookends to complete the look.
