Wallpaper and molding create a coffered ceiling look

Everyone seems to forget the fifth wall—the ceiling. Well, almost everyone. I have heard all of the objections and I see the surprised look on my clients' faces when I first suggest something like this. However, this newsletter comes with a warning: If you start with color on the ceiling—you might not be able to stop.

There is no better way to make a model home memorable than to paint the ceiling blue. Instead of making the ceiling seem lower, it actually made it appear higher. It was almost like looking up into the sky. I loved listening to the reactions of clients when they came into this model.

For the longest time, Marcie wanted to have a coffered ceiling in her bedroom. We talked about it a lot. It was possible yet very expensive. I suggested that maybe we could create a similar look with just a little wallpaper and some molding. It didn’t take long for Marcie to become a believer. She could then concentrate on completing the rest of the room with all of the things she truly loves.

Gina has a bolder side. She didn’t even flinch when I suggested a red ceiling.

We did switch the dining room with the living room which gave her much more space to entertain family and friends. Her only problem now is getting them to leave.

Designer Secrets
It is natural for your eye to stop where the color stops, which is why using the fifth wall can be so pleasing. Painting the ceiling with even a subtle color will make crown molding stand out. To add excitement without a lot of color, simple molding and a little bit of wallpaper can really make a difference.

Things are also looking up on our new location. We will soon be settling into our new design studio. I am very excited and I welcome everyone to stop by in June. Celebration date to be determined.
