Greetings!

When Holly and Ron moved into their home, they only shared it with their daughter Morgan. With the arrival of their second daughter Madison, their needs changed quickly and as the girls grew, not surprisingly, they discovered the need for more space and of course, more room for the girls' visiting friends. And, as many families today can relate to, they needed to accomplish this on a budget.

So, when the kitchen needed to be renovated, we knew we needed to think outside the box. Here was a large wonderful space, but much of it seemed to be wasted space. First off, there were very few cabinets in the room. Additionally, there was a traditional eating area that, although connected to the kitchen, was always a separate area. Our first order of business was to redesign this area far more effectively. Initially we redesigned the space, adding cabinets for storage along with a banquette. In doing this, a great place for their family to eat was achieved! When friends come to visit Morgan and Madison, there is always room for more on the bench. As a bonus, the bench also provides a comfortable place for any guests to relax and chat while dinner is being prepared!

Next, we recognized the island was just too small and the dark countertops showed every water mark and crumb. We selected a lighter granite with a more active color palette to give our clients an incredibly family friendly surface. Behind the island was a long wall with mostly wasted space. Adding floor to ceiling cabinets would have felt too confining, so we opted for open shelves to create interest and to break up the boxy feeling. The open shelves also provided a place for a splash of color. We love color!

A simple subway tile added clean lines with a traditional feel. The refrigerator was designed to be built-in with a more attractive profile, and it has a great storage capacity!

Finally, YES, we decided to paint the ceiling too. Since there was very little wall space, it only made sense to pull the color up to "the fifth wall"!

We enjoyed every minute we spent working with Holly and Ron to create this amazing comfortable kitchen.
