Self Portrait Wall

Core Studies Students Create Self-Portrait Wall to Celebrate UArts' 140th Anniversary

Self portraits created by students in the Core Studies program are currently on display on the third floor of Anderson Hall (333 S. Broad Street) in celebration of the University's 140th Anniversary and the Inauguration of President David Yager, as well as to welcome the incoming class of 2020. The chosen portraits were printed on removable label paper and adhered to the wall following a creative grid pattern. The patterned installation interacts with and responds to the existing architectural structure and celebrates the energy and enthusiasm of students enrolled in the University's College of Art, Media & Design. Project collaborators included Sculpture Assistant Professor Laura Frazure and Fine Arts Associate Professor Diane Pepe.

A project by Graphic Design students Matthew Roop '17, Sidney Boria '17 and James Kwak '17 was named a semifinalist in the 2016 Adobe Design Achievement Awards, a global digital media competition for student creators presented by software giant Adobe Systems. The submitted work, titled Process, featured an array of materials the students created for the School of Design's spring 2016 exhibition. Also contributing to Process were recent alumni and staff members Ben Brotman BFA '13 (Graphic Design), the University's in-house graphic designer who served as project manager, and Monica Morris BFA '15 (Sculpture), the School of Design's administrative assistant who coordinated the project. This recognition comes as the UArts Graphic Design program celebrates its 50th anniversary with GD50: We Are Here (see story above).
