School of Music Faculty/Alum Wins Latin Grammy
Congratulations to School of Music faculty member and alumnus Arturo Stable MM '10 (Jazz Studies), who played percussion on the Paquito D'Rivera album Jazz Meets the Classics, which won a Latin Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album during the November 19 ceremony. Stable was also part of the 2014 Grammy Award-winning album Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue by drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. More about Stable >>

Art Ed Grad Student Is Co-Author, Picture Editor for New Book
First-year Art + Design Education graduate student Julien Tomasello MAT '17 (Visual Arts) has just released his second book, a hardcover titled Art + Fashion: Collaborations & Connections Between Icons (Chronicle Books). An award-winning art and photography editor, Tomasello serves as co-author and picture editor on this latest release, which features artist and fashion icon collaborations spanning numerous eras. He was also picture editor on his first book, The New York Times best-selling Pantone on Fashion: A Century of Color in Design (Chronicle Books, Fall 2014).

Theater Faculty, Alumni Take Top Honors at 2015 Barrymore Awards
Faculty members and alumni from the Ira Brind School of Theater Arts were among the top winners at the 2015 Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre, Philadelphia's most prestigious theater honors. The ceremony was presented by Theatre Philadelphia on November 2 at the University's Merriam Theater. Among the highlights were the Lifetime Achievement Award to retired Brind School faculty member Johnnie Hobbs, Jr. and the Outstanding Leading Actor in a Musical win (his second) for Adjunct Assistant Professor and alumnus Ben Dibble BFA '00 (Musical Theater) [pictured above].

UArts welcomed representatives from Seoul's Korea National University of the Arts (K-Arts) to Philadelphia on November 11. During the visit, K-Arts President Bongryol Kim (left) and UArts Interim President Stephen Tarantal (right) signed an agreement to renew and expand our student exchange programs.

Alumna's 'Mighty Makers' Building Set Nominated for Toy of the Year
Mighty Makers Fun on the Ferris Wheel, a building set for girls designed by Crafts alumna and K'NEX Brands design manager Heather Croston BFA '94 (Jewelry/Metals), has been nominated for a Toy of the Year (TOTY) Award in the educational category. The TOTY Awards are sponsored by the toy industry to recognize the top toys available this holiday season. The voting process includes input from consumers, as well as members of the Toy Industry Association, retailers, journalists, bloggers and academics. Voting will close Sunday, January 17, 2016. Winners will be announced during a celebration in New York on February 12.

UArts Welcomes New Director of Alumni & Parent Relations
UArts and the Alumni Association are excited to welcome Tracy E. Smith as the new director of Alumni & Parent Relations. Tracy comes to the University of the Arts with more than seven years of experience as the director of Development and Membership for Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston and as the director of Alumni & Parent Relations for the Boston Conservatory. She earned a Bachelor of Music at Moravian College and studied Arts Administration at Drexel University. In addition to being an accomplished arts administrator, she stays personally involved in several areas of the arts as a photographer, designer, singer and flutist. In the coming weeks and months, Tracy will be connecting with many of you, so be on the lookout for an email or phone call!
