Music Senior Wins Montreux Jazz Voice Competition
Rising School of Music senior Alita Moses '15 (Vocal Performance) [top and right] was named the first-place winner in the 2014 Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition, an international competition open to professional singers under the age of 35. Finals were held in July during the 48th Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland. Moses and eight other vocalists were selected for the semi-finals from among submissions from more than 40 countries. She took home the top prize after a final performance against two other singers.

UArts Dancers Advance to Top 10 on 'So You Think You Can Dance'
So it's down to the Top 10 on Fox reality show "So You Think You Can Dance" and two UArts dancers are still going strong! Incoming School of Dance freshman Rudy Abreu '18 (Dance) [right] and junior Bridget Whitman '16 (Dance) both advanced to the competition's next round after a live elimination episode that aired July 30. Abreu and Whitman will perform with the other Top 10 dancers for viewer's votes on Wednesday, August 6. UArts alumna Christina Perri '08 (Communication), whose music career skyrocketed on the show four years ago with her song "Jar of Hearts," returns to the show to perform her new single, "Burning Gold."
Congratulations also go to junior Stanley Glover '16 (Dance), who made it into the show's Top 20.

Alum's Top Philly Ad Agency Turns 50

Congratulations to Berny Brownstein BFA '57 (Advertising Design), chairman and chief creative officer of the Brownstein Group, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, making it Philadelphia's oldest independent ad agency. Brownstein and his son, Marc, who currently serves as the company's CEO, were recently profiled in The Philadelphia Inquirer, highlighting the award-winning firm's impressive 50-year history.

Instrumental Performance Major Wins Trombone Competition
Trombone major Nicholas Lombardelli '15 (Instrumental Performance) was recently named the first-place winner of the Carl Fontana Jazz Trombone Competition sponsored by the International Trombone Association. Lombardelli, who is a member of the UArts "Z" Big Band, was also selected as lead trombonist for the 2014 Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Jazz Orchestra, recognized as the premier honors orchestra for the East Coast's finest college jazz musicians.

The Alumni Association is pleased to announce the launch of the UArts Alumni Portal, an exclusive resource that will offer a number of services to our alumni community. Launching this fall, this password-protected tool will be available to all alumni and will replace UArts Connect. The Alumni Portal will allow graduates to update their contact information, view the alumni directory, stay current with University news and events, and access their transcripts.
