UArts, Peirce College Form Strategic Partnership

Peirce College logoThe University of the Arts and Peirce College have announced a strategic educational partnership to add greater depth to their educational offerings and better prepare students for the current job market. Peirce College will offer select business courses to UArts students seeking to bolster their business background, while UArts will open specific courses to Peirce students. This partnership will allow Peirce and UArts to combine their resources and rich traditions and leverage their respective strengths to better serve students.

Former Painting Major Jared Leto Nominated for Academy Award


Dallas Buyer's Club

Fresh on the heels of winning a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Dallas Buyers Club," former UArts Painting major Jared Leto '93 (right) has earned a shot at an accompanying Oscar statuette. The actor, musician, singer and songwriter, who plays a transgender woman dying of AIDS in the film, has been nominated for an Academy Award, also in the Best Supporting Actor category.

ID Senior Featured in 'Yanko Design'

E-WAT
E-WAT, an electronic water bottle designed by student WenHua Zhang '14 (Industrial Design), was featured in Yanko Design, the world's most popular and influential online design magazine. Developed in Zhang's senior studio under the guidance of ID professors Anthony Guido and Jennifer Goettner, E-WAT uses sensor technology to monitor a person's hydration and water consumption.

Children's Book by Faculty/Alum Wins Geisel Medal   


The Watermelon Seed The Watermelon Seed (Disney-Hyperion), a children's book written and illustrated by Printmaking lecturer and alumnus Greg Pizzoli MFA '09 (Book Arts/Printmaking), has won the 2014 Geisel Award for the most distinguished American book for beginning readers. This prestigious award is given annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association. A true picture book gem with bold color and a beautiful sense of design, The Watermelon Seed has received praise from The New York Times and a starred review in Publisher's Weekly, which called it "an expert debut."

Alumna's Book Optioned for MTV Series

The List

The List, the 2012 Young Adult novel by Siobhan Vivian BFA '01 (Writing for Film & Television), has been optioned for an MTV series. Screenwriter Liz Maccie ("Make It or Break It") will adapt the book and her husband, screenwriter / author / director Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), has signed on as executive producer. The pair calls the book "ripe for a television adaptation" in a recent Publisher's Weekly article. An insightful and provocative novel about a list of the ugliest and prettiest girl in each grade at Mount Washington High that mysteriously appears each year before homecoming, The List explores the effects the rankings have on the most recently chosen girls.

Alumni Association Now Accepting Nominations for 2014 Alumni Council

Alumni Council 2012-2013The Alumni Association is currently accepting nominations
from graduates interested in running for election to the Alumni Council. The Council is a partner to the Office of Alumni Relations in its efforts to engage, advance and support UArts, its alumni and students through a variety of programs, services and volunteer opportunities.
