UArts Launches University Honors Program
The University of the Arts has announced the creation of a new University Honors Program, set to launch in the spring 2013 semester. Directed by Associate Provost James Savoie, the program is intended to provide academically exceptional and creatively gifted students with an additional level of rigorous and enriching intellectual and artistic experience while pursuing their undergraduate degree.

MFA Student to Represent UAE at Venice Biennale
Acclaimed Emirati artist Mohammed Kazem MFA '12 (Studio Art) [right] has been selected to represent the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the 55th International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Kazem's solo show will be on display at the exhibit taking place in Venice, Italy, from June 1 to November 24, 2013.

ID Alum Named 'Up-and-Comer' by 'Forbes'
Forbes magazine has named Philip Fierlinger BS '92 (Industrial Design) [right] an "up-and-comer" in its December 10 issue. The Philadelphia native made the publication's list of "entrepreneurs doing really cool things who are worth watching" as head of design for accounting software developer Xero.

Giant Sculptures on Display in Front of Hamilton Hall
The Hamilton Hall Public Art Initiative at the University of the Arts presents "Proyecto Callejero: I & II," two new monumental sculptures by artist Miguel Antonio Horn. Curated by UArts Sculpture Shop Supervisor Lewis Colburn, Horn's "Street Project" exhibit is on display through January 28, 2013, on the two platforms facing Broad Street in front of Hamilton Hall.

Multimedia Senior Wins PhillyPitch! Screenwriting Competition
University of the Arts student Marcus O'Leary '13 (Multimedia) [right] has been named the winner of the 2012 PhillyPitch! competition sponsored by the Greater Philadelphia Film Office (GPFO). The program is part of GPFO's annual Shoot in Philadelphia (SIP) screenwriting competition, co-sponsored by UArts. His screenplay, "Reading Terminal Romance," was chosen from among 30 food-themed story ideas by a panel of judges that included Writing for Film & Television faculty members Diane Walsh and David Greenberg; noted playwright/screenwriter Bruce Graham; Emmy-winning TV host, writer and producer Nancy Glass; renowned screenwriter Mark Rosenthal; and former SIP winner Ernie Vecchione.

Sale of Illustration Alum's Work to Benefit Student Scholarships

A selection of work by the late Philadelphia/Santa Fe artist, illustrator, and University of the Arts alumnus and faculty member Isa Barnett DIPL '43 (Illustration) is available for purchase. Included in the recent "Generation to Generation" exhibit presented by his artist son and fellow UArts alumnus Ivan Barnett BFA '69 (Illustration), a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the paintings made through December 31 will benefit student scholarships at the University of the Arts. Newman Galleries in Philadelphia (1625 Walnut Street), where several of the paintings are also on display, is handling sales of Barnett's work. Alumni Hosts Needed for UArts Career Observers Program

The University of the Arts is currently seeking alumni to participate in its Career Observers externship program launching this spring. The program provides top students with a two- to five-day career shadowing opportunity with UArts alumni at their workplace. The first Career Observation Week is scheduled for March 11-15, 2013, during the University's Spring Break.
