Is Deer Antler 

Velvet Dangerous?

After being a very engaged student of the supplement industry for 5 years now I will be the first to flag a substance I think would be harmful to our customers.  In my opinion, things like pro hormones and heavy stimulants are not good for long term health.  Recently deer antler spray is under scrutiny.  I'm not talking about synthetic antler or antler that has been spiked with alternate substances.  (those manufacturers deserve whatever they get) I'm talking about natural deer antler. Natural Deer antler has been used for 2,000 years.  The controversy seems to be that there is trace amounts of IGF contained in the product.  Since all animals have hormones, there are trace amounts of IGF and other hormone metabolites present in any animal product. In my mind, this controversy crosses the line into the absurd. Any organization can ban whatever they want and we will help our "athlete customers" avoid those things, but I have never heard of a safety issue with deer antlers. The only feedback I've heard is from people feeling they got a benefit in their recovery time from injuries.  Saying you can't eat parts of the antlers would be similar to saying you can't eat the hind quarters because of their proximity to other glands.  We have natural deer antler product at our stores and if you have an injury it just may speed your recovery.
