Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene
July 22

The Collect:

Almighty God, whose blessed
Son restored Mary Magdalene to health of body and of mind, and called her to be a witness of his resurrection: Mercifully grant that by your grace we may be healed from all our infirmities and know you in the power of his unending life; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
New Bishop=New Clothes & A Bishop's Ring

Bishop-elect Skirving will be consecrated as Bishop of the Diocese of East Carolina in November. On this special day, he will need a new set of clothes, liturgical clothes that is. As bishop he will need: a purple cassock, pectoral cross, bishop's crozier/staff, cope and mitre, rochet and chimere, bishop's scarf, red chasuble and stole, etc.

A symbol of the ministry of the Bishop Diocesan in the Episcopal Church is the ring a bishop wears. The ring that the bishop wears has engraved in it the seal of the Diocese of East Carolina. It is used to make a wax seal on ordination documents and other documents to certify the bishop's approval. The bishop's ring will be presented to the Bishop-elect Skirving at his consecration. Traditionally, the ring is presented to the new bishop at their consecration, as a gift from the clergy of the diocese.

Attention Parishes-
At this time we ask each parish of the Diocese of East Carolina to set aside a Sunday, prior to August 15, 2014, for the purpose of collecting gifts to purchase the bishop's new clothes. No gift is too small, or too large, and we want to include everyone. Your gift is very important as our new bishop begins his ministry among us. There are opportunities to purchase designated gifts. If you would like to make a designated gift, please contact the Rev. A. Michael Singer.

Please make your check payable to the Diocese of East Carolina and in the memo portion of the check write "Bishop's New Clothes". Your check should be mailed to:
The Diocese of East Carolina
"Bishop's New Clothes"
P.O. Box 1336
Kinston, NC 28503-1336

We would ask that contributions be received at Diocesan House by August 20, 2014. It most instances, it will take 6-8 weeks to order these specialty items. All items will need to be ordered in a timely fashion so they will arrive in time for the consecration on November 8th. We look forward to hearing from you. Should you have questions, please contact us at your convenience.

Attention Clergy-

"Hurricane Resilience: America Acts on Climate"

On Saturday, July 26th from 10:00am-12:00pm, NC Interfaith Power & Light will present a network of resources to empower communities to adapt to the climate change already inevitable and make changes to prevent worsening of the climate crisis. "Hurricane Resilience: America Acts on Climate" is the first in a series of three educational events.

Engaging communities in "climate conversations" about local impacts leads people not only to prepare for impending disasters, but to be inspired to prevent them preemptively.

Please contact info@ncipl.org for more details. This event will be located at the Historic Train Depot in downtown Morehead City (1001 Arendell St.) Free and open to the public.  Snacks and beverages will be provided.
