The Standing Committee of East Carolina is pleased to announce that the Diocesan Profile has been posted to the Episcopal Transition webpage.  The Search Committee will be accepting applications for those asking to enter into the discernment process through September 27th, 2013.

If you are beginning to hear God's call into a period of discernment regarding the VIIIth Bishop of East Carolina, we are grateful for your willingness to open yourself up to this vocation.  We invite you to read and spend time with the Diocesan Profile, located under the tab on the Search and Transitions webpage.  If you would like to formally place yourself into consideration the application forms are found on the "Application" tab.  We also invite you to join in prayer with us as we continue moving forward in this journey towards God's hope for his people in this part of the world.

The bishop diocesan election is scheduled to take place on May 17th, 2014 at Christ Church, New Bern and the ordination and consecration of the new bishop is planned for November 8th, 2014.

Holy Spirit, guide our discernment as we seek the next bishop for our diocese. Be with us as we gather and discuss our life together. Help us remember, celebrate, and dream. Nurture in us the vision you have for our future. Through Jesus Christ, the Great Shepherd of the Sheep. Amen.

The Transition Committee for the election of the VIII Bishop of the Diocese of East Carolina held its first meeting on Saturday, August 24th at St. Mary's in Kinston.

Over the next 18 months we are called to organize and design a process wherein all 19,000 members of the body of Christ in this diocese may prayerfully gather, discern, and celebrate our newly elected Bishop.  Members of the Transition Committee were appointed by the Standing Committee in February.

Our Chaplain, the Rev'd Henry (Hank) Burdick began the day by leading the committee and members of the Standing Committee in an inspiring and heart-felt commissioning service and litany for discernment, an uplifting and heartfelt experience.  The Rev'd Kevin Johnson, president of the Standing Committee, presented the Chargeto Committee and inspired us with his challenge to us to create a process that is centered in discernment and spirituality.  Following worship, the committee met with the diocesan Search and Transition Committee mentor, Judy Stark, a resident of St. Petersburg, Florida. We are blessed to be guided in this process by an experienced and insightful mentor.

The work of the Transition Committee encompasses an abundance of responsibilities. We will plan and execute the Walkabout experience - a time when all members of the diocese will have opportunities to meet the candidates for bishop.  We will coordinate and welcome your parish delegates and clergy to the electing convention on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Christ Church, New Bern for the election of our new chief shepherd.  We will provide hospitality to all nominees and candidates. We will plan and coordinate a joyful celebration of Ordination and Consecration for our new bishop and the worldwide Anglican Communion on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Rock Springs Center in Greenville, N.C. And, we will aid in the transition of the new bishop and family as they settle into the life of the Diocese of East Carolina.

We will keep you informed as we develop our diocesan process of electing and celebrating a bishop who will enjoy calling East Carolina home. Our next meeting will be held in October.

We ask that you please continue to keep the Transition Committee and the Search and Nominations Committee in your prayers.

Baptismal Font to New Home

Mr. Jim Warren, a parishioner at St. John's, Wilmington, is looking for a new home for a baptismal font that was hand made by his father and consecrated by Bishop Michael Curry of the Episcopal Diocese of NC for the congregation of The Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in Apex and transitioned to
St. Elizabeth's Episcopal in Apex. Since the closing of St. Elizabeth's a year or more ago, the font has been in storage. It was designed after the font at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Cary. The basin is removable for washing and the body is oak. The body is approximately 30" x 30" square and 35" tall.

It is Mr. Warren's hope that this font finds a new church home where it can continue to serve and be used often for the holy sacrament of baptism.
