Greetings!

As I read Ralph Waldo Emerson in college, I had no idea how profound his quote "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail" would be in my life.  I am fortunate to have parents who always encouraged me to challenge myself, embrace my differences and think outside the box.  At this point in my life, I look to forge a new path and, hopefully, leave a trail of change behind me.

I recently formed The Getaway Girl Foundation with the help of friends and family.  This process has been, and continues to be, overwhelming at times, but my passion for its mission, the dedication of the Board of Directors, and the positive reaction of those who learn about our goals outweighs the enormous amount of policies, procedures, criteria and planning we have encountered in the past eight months.  Please take the time to read about the Foundation below, and I encourage you to join us in blazing a new trail.

The Getaway Girl Foundation

In the summer of 2012, The Getaway Girl Foundation was established with the mission 'to empower women of all ages, cultures and diversity through travel and related opportunities to transform their perspective, self-confidence and quality of life.'  Although we are still waiting for our non-profit status to be approved, we are already working towards accomplishing our mission.  Below are some additional details about the Foundation and how you can participate.

Why did the Getaway Girl Foundation Begin?
After a devastating divorce and getting fired from her job, Casey Wohl, also known as The Getaway Girl®, found solace in traveling with her girlfriends and realized an unfilled niche in the travel industry as no one was writing city-specific travel guides for women.  After writing the Girls Getaway Guide travel books series and while traveling the world serving as a Travel Correspondent for the nationally-syndicated TV Show, Daytime, she noticed the positive impact travel had on other women in need as it transformed and empowered them.  Because travel changed her life, she wanted to give that to others....and The Getaway Girl Foundation was launched.

What Are Some of the Foundation's Inspiring Stories?
BSW zip Sondra lost her only son to cancer after dedicating years to his care.  Two weeks after her son's funeral, her husband left her for another woman.  Just weeks before her 44th birthday her friends teamed up with The Getaway Girl® to take Sondra on a much-needed Girls Getaway to the Beaches of South Walton where they took a gourmet cooking class, ziplined, learned to YOLO and became lifelong friends.

Diana battled breast cancer and overcame paralysis on one side alaska of her body, as well as a mastectomy.  To celebrate her victory over cancer and her 50th birthday, she joined The Getaway Girl® on a Girls Getaway to Alaska where they braved rapids, hiked glaciers, drove ATVs, watched black bears, enjoyed Denali National Park and gazed at Mount McKinley.

How Can I Nominate Someone for a Girls Getaway?

Visit www.GetawayGirlFoundation.org and click on the "Nominate" button for instructions.

How Can I Help Further the Foundation's Cause?
There are several ways to get involved.  First, you can make a financial donation directly to the Foundation.  We also accept in-kind donations, such as transferable air mile points, hotel stays, transportation, dining, attractions, etc.  Each recipient gets a 'Pink Suitcase' for her journey, and travel-related items are always needed to fill the suitcases.  If you are not able to contribute financially, we always looking for volunteers to donate their time by serving on Committees, as fundraising event hosts, or gal pals looking for a fun night out to attend one of our Girls Night Out events.
