Assalamu Alaikum

Dear Family & Friends of ICSC,

We have something for everyone this weekend at the Islamic Center! Events begin tonight with a family-friendly screening of Disney's Zootopia. This will be our second Family Movie Night - beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the lecture hall. Light snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase in the lobby.

Also, a friendly reminder as we move into the final two weeks of our Passover program, "Eight Weeks of Shabbat." If you have not yet had an opportunity to attend a Shabbat service at a local temple, please consider joining us tonight at Beth Chayim Chadashim (BCC). BCC is a reform synagogue located in the Mid-City area. The program will begin at 6:15 p.m. and we do request that you RSVP so that we can inform the temple of our visitors. In addition to Shabbat, we invite you to participate in Refugee Humanitarian Day taking place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. We will be sorting donations, crafting love notes, and sewing reusable menstrual pads for Syrian refugees. We are also collecting gently used clothing, books, and toys for refugees from now until 9:30 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday). All donations should be left at the front desk of the Islamic Center.

Finally, on Sunday at noon, we will invite Dr. Zaman Stanazai and Henry Wudl for an engaging dialogue surrounding "Muslim and Jewish Perspectives on the Thriving Literature and Culture of Andalusia." Please join us as they share deep intellect on a city filled with rich culture and history.

We look forward to seeing you this weekend!

In peace,
Islamic Center of Southern California

P.S. STAY INFORMED.  Please forward this newsletter to your friends so they can join our mailing list.

Community CornerCommCor
Last weekend, approximately 400 Muslims, Jews, Christians, Sikhs, Atheists, and others came out to support the annual Interfaith Solidarity March. In a show of unity and mutual acceptance, community members walked side-by-side in the mile-long journey from Wilshire Boulevard Temple (WBT) back to the Islamic Center. This path connecting temple to mosque was found more symbolic than anticipated when our marchers discovered that it began at the site of the oldest established Jewish community [WBT] in Los Angeles and ended at the home of the oldest established Muslim community [ICSC] in Los Angeles.

"Today, I prayed with my feet."
(Ron Galperin, Los Angeles City Controller)

Along the way, marchers were addressed by speakers and performers sharing bold reminders of the common thread that is sewn amongst all "people of conscience." Marium Mohiudeen, a NewGround alumna and member of the ICSC Interfaith Council, took the podium during the closing rally to encourage all marchers to, "Show up. Stand up. Speak up." This same message was echoed throughout the day's events, repeating itself in various forms. Los Angeles City Controller, Ron Galperin, reminded us that as God-conscious individuals, participating in "sacred resistance" is part of his Jewish faith, saying, "Today, I prayed with my feet."

Once the formal program came to a close, participants met in the ICSC Social Hall for an informal opportunity to continue the day's conversations with snacks and refreshments. Marchers were pleased with the day's events, leaving inspired to remain in contact with new interfaith friends and already looking forward to next year's march. "This is my first year participating in the march, but I will come every year from now on," said Jennifer, an enthusiastic Angeleno. "This is the kind of event that has an opportunity to make a real difference in our community."

Prayer Timesprayers
We are open for prayers five times a day, every day. The iqama (announcement for prayer) is ten minutes after the Call to Prayer (athan). You can find prayer times on our website.
