Dec. 16, 2016

Assalamu Alaikum

Dear Family & Friends of ICSC,

As 2016 draws to a close, the Islamic Center welcomes you all to participate in our final Sunday Program of the year.  The morning will begin with Highlights of the Qur'an as Mahmood Waseeq shares Islam's perspective on engaging with other faith communities. Parents Circle will meet at 11 a.m. and Dr. Khaled Abou El Fadl will follow at noon to discuss, "The Future of Muslims in a Trumpian World." Sunday Programs will resume on Jan. 8, 2017.

On Dec. 15, the LAPD hosted its 2016 Muslim Forum at the Islamic Center. This forum was an opportunity to ask questions and connect with our local law enforcement. In this session, community members asked about ways to stay civically engaged, who to call in case of a hate incident/crime, TSA security checks, and more. We also honored our longstanding partner and friend Deputy Chief Michael Downing with an ICSC "Law Enforcement and Community Engagement Award." This was Chief Downing's final Muslim Forum as he will be retiring in a couple of months.

The Islamic Center honored Deputy Chief Downing for being a true pioneer in building relations between Muslims and law enforcement and making our nation safer and more harmonious.

We look forward to seeing you and your loved ones this weekend.

In peace,
Islamic Center of Southern California

Community Cornercomm
On Friday, Dec. 9, our local community showed up in masses to support us at jumma'a. They represented a collaboration of social justice organizations - standing up for the rights of all while handing out flowers to spread peace and share a smile. Thank you. Our hearts are warmed once again by the love and solidarity of our Angeleno neighbors. And a special thank you to the Advancement Project for organizing such a beautiful gathering.
