Dec. 9, 2016

Assalamu Alaikum

Dear Family & Friends of ICSC,

This Sunday, Dec. 11, we will take a break from our usual programming to support our brothers and sisters at the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) Convention. There will be no Sunday Program, but Sunday School will remain as scheduled.

Join us at the Long Beach Convention Center at 3 p.m. for a special panel discussion titled, "Enriching America through the Prophet's Inspiration." The conversation will center around Dr. Maher Hathout's book, "Inspiration from the Life of Muhammad." Following the conclusion of the panel discussion, Khizr Khan and Van Jones are the evening's two keynote speakers.

Also, we urge you to join us for the LAPD's Semi-Annual Muslim Forum at the Islamic Center on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. This will be a time for us to connect with our local law enforcement officials and engage in an open forum to discuss ongoing efforts between the LAPD and Muslim community. This informative event is open to all ages.

In peace,
Islamic Center of Southern California

P.S. STAY SAFE. STAY INFORMED.  Please forward this newsletter to a friend so they can join our mailing list.

Community Cornercomm
Letters and emails have been pouring in over the past couple of months. In the midst of the hateful rhetoric and division, goodness still prevails.
Local community member Leesa heard about the hate letters that were received at the Islamic Center and approximately 6 other mosques in the United States and wanted to take action, "I've never been here [to the Islamic Center] before," said Leesa, "I'm an atheist. No one should be bothering you because of your religion. Muslims should feel safe to practice their faith in the United States. And I'm here, to help you feel a little safer."
Prayer Timesprayers
We are open for prayers five times a day, every day. The iqama is ten minutes after the athan is called.  You can find prayer times on our website.

"You will not attain righteousness
until you spend in charity
of the things you love."
