Assalamu Alaikum

Dear Family & Friends of ICSC,

As the post-election dust settles, we remind ourselves to reflect inward and fill our spiritual cups. "Verily with hardship comes ease" (94:5). We are deeply grateful for the incredible support that we continue to receive from our friends from many diverse faith communities and civic leaders here in Los Angeles . If you missed Mayor Eric Garcetti's comments after jumma'a last week, scroll down to watch his powerful message to all of us.

Please join us on Sunday at noon, when ICSC and MPAC team up to host a special panel discussion regarding the future of refugees seeking safety and a chance at a new life in America. We welcome Yvette Bearce, Maria Khani, and Dr. Laila Al-Marayati as they take a multi-dimensional look at the challenges that refugees face upon arrival to the U.S. and how we can be part of their successful transition.

Then, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, join us for the L.A. #IAmAmerica Vigil to stand in solidarity with Angelenos of diverse faith, culture, and racial backgrounds to say, ""#IAmAmerica and I stand for democracy, equality and freedom from hate and fear. #IAmAmerica and we ALL belong here and we will work together to uphold our democracy, our freedoms and our values as one." ICSC is one of 20 L.A. organizations co-sponsoring this Vigil and we urge you to come together at the Dolores Mission Catholic Church (not far from ICSC) for this important event.

We look forward to seeing you and your loved ones this weekend.

In peace,
Islamic Center of Southern California

Words of Support for our CommunityWOS
When Islamic Center members arrived to jumma'a prayers last week, they were greeted by the smiling faces of our interfaith friends. Dozens of congregants from Saint John's Cathedral, the Guibord Center, the Christian-Muslim Consultative Group, Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace and the American Jewish University filled our front stairs and held messages of support for the ICSC community.
"This week has been a tough one. I realize that your community is probably also feeling real fear right now.  I just wanted to say that I'm sorry.  I think I speak for most people when I say that we are your neighbors and fellow Americans and will stand with you whenever necessary.  You are valuable members of our society."  - Rebecca
"Myself and my friends are concerned about the rising anti-Islam rhetoric in our country. We care deeply about the safety, wellness, and prosperity of the Muslim community in Southern California. We want to do all that we can to help. Please let us know what we can do, where we can be, how we can help, and where we can be further educated about the Muslim American experience in Southern California." - Tony
"I feel that it is important to reach out to the  Islamic community to  let you know we stand in solidarity.  I hope we all have nothing to fear, but I want you to know that we will support the Muslim community however we can. As an active and involved member of the Los Angeles Jewish community, I want you to know that you can call on me and my network at any point over the next four years. We are stronger together. " - Abbi
"I am a Jewish woman who will not stand by as Americans are being treated improperly. This goes for hate speech, violence, or false implications." - Amy
