Assalamu Alaikum

Dear Family & Friends of ICSC,

Do you have friends, family, or colleagues who may have never visited a mosque? If so, please invite them to join us at the Islamic Center for National Open Mosque Day this Sunday, Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year, our theme is "God is Beautiful and Loves Beauty." The day will begin with an art exhibit and tours of the Center and end with a community barbecue. For the full program of events, please see the schedule below or visit our website.

Also, please remember to purchase your tickets to our 2016 Heritage Awards today. This year we will honor long-time ICSC member Dr. Iraj Ershaghi for his continuous support of the Islamic Center.

Dr. Saleh Kholaki greeting interfaith visitors at Open Mosque Day in 2012

For the past 15 years, the Islamic Center of Southern California and other U.S. mosques have come together to host National Open Mosque Day. This annual program was started to help mitigate growing misconceptions of Islam.  Each year, Muslims across the country facilitate opportunities for the interfaith community to visit local mosques, learn about Islam, and meet their Muslim neighbors.

This Sunday, we will open our doors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a special Open Mosque Day program. Visitors will be greeted with a chance to take tours and learn about the history of the Islamic Center. Members of the ICSC Interfaith Council and volunteers will also give an overview about the programs and services that the Islamic Center offers. In addition, there will be an art exhibit, an "Introduction to Islam" session by Imam Asim Buyuksoy, a barbecue, followed by an interfaith panel discussion.

"The whole purpose of Open Mosque Day is to introduce our religion and our community to our brothers and sisters from different faiths and backgrounds," says Imam Asim Buyuksoy.

Although the Open Mosque Day program is primarily geared towards the interfaith community, everyone is welcome to attend. Join the interfaith efforts this Sunday and help offer a warm welcome to the Islamic Center visitors. To volunteer as a greeter or to assist with the barbecue, please email Osamah Bin-Mahfouz.

Serve + Connect with Usfood

Each month, the ICSC organizes a group of volunteers to go down to the Union Rescue Mission to serve dinner for the men, women, and children in need. This event is a lot of fun and also a great way to meet other Muslims. Our next Serve + Connect event will be on Nov. 20 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the URM. Send us a message to reserve your spot. The number of volunteers is limited for this event.
Prayer Timesprayers
We are open for prayers five times a day, every day.  Iqama is ten minutes after the athan is called.  You can find prayer times on our website.

"My mercy embraces all things."
