Happy Islamic New Year! On Oct. 3, we launched year 1438 AH and commemorated the Hijrah of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina at our Sunday Program.
Another special day is coming up on Oct. 11. The day of Ashura commemorates a day of mercy when God saved Moses and his followers from Pharaoh by creating a path in the Red Sea. It is also a day that we are encouraged to fast and seek forgiveness for our sins. If you would like to learn more about the relevance of this day, please join us for this Sunday's lecture from Imam Asim Buyuksoy as he discusses the "Significance of Ashura."

With Election Day (Nov. 8) drawing near, ICSC leadership is diligently lining up multiple opportunities to get educated on the platforms of the 2016 Presidential candidates. At a time when Islam is so deeply embedded into the political rhetoric of this election, it is more important than ever that American Muslims take an active role in our elections.
"As American citizens, it is our civic duty to participate in the United States political process even if it just means casting a vote," says Sue Obeidi, Director of Operations at MPAC. "Let's be proactive and take our role as American citizens seriously. There is a lot riding on this year's election. Not only for our community, but other underserved communities and for America at large."
This Sunday, Oct. 9, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Islamic Center, MPAC and Advancing Justice - LA will host a "Debate Watch Party" as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump take the stage for their second Presidential Debate.
Obeidi encourages all Muslims, especially youth, to come view the debate. "Educate yourselves and gather your information about the two candidates," says Obeidi. "This is part of your decision making process leading up to the Nov. 8 election."

For the past 10 years, ICSC has been serving groceries to the local community. Each weekend, approximately 25 volunteers meet in our cafeteria to take part in this event. We have partnered with HopeNet to provide high quality food such as organic meat and fresh produce. If you are interested in being a part of our team, come join us at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday! Prayer Times
We are open for prayers five times a day, every day. Iqama is ten minutes after the athan is called. You can find prayer times on our website.
