Ramadan Reflections:
"Ramadan is Upon Us"
by Asim Buyuksoy (Religious Director)
|
 |
Ramadan is our month of fasting, reflection, devotion, generosity and sacrifice. It is a month of Qur'an and mercy. The feelings and lessons we experience in Ramadan, should stay with us throughout the year.
In the Qur'an, we are commanded to fast, so that we may "learn self-restraint" (2:183). Through fasting, we experience hunger and thirst and sympathize with those in the world who have little to eat every day. Insha'Allah, during this time, we increase our devotion and feel closer to the Almighty. We recognize that everything we have in life is a blessing from Him. In this holy month, we develop feelings of generosity and goodwill toward others through increased charity. By self-control, we practice good manners, good speech, and good habits. And by changing our routines, we gain a chance to establish additional healthy lifestyle habits. When we participate in family and community gatherings, we strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood in our communities.
May God accept our fasting, forgive our sins, and guide us all to the straight path. May God bless us all during the month of Ramadan, and throughout the year, with his infinite forgiveness, mercy, and peace, and bring us all closer to him and to each other. Ameen.

*Our Ramadan Programs are a cornerstone of our holy month. Iftar will be served every night during the first week of Ramadan and Fridays through Sundays during the remaining weeks. Insha'Allah, we can raise funds to cover Monday through Thursday nights as well, but we are dependent on the generous contributions of our community in order to make that possible. Please consider becoming an iftar sponsor this Ramadan.*
