Assalamu Alaikum

Dear Family & Friends of ICSC,

Spring is upon us and the Islamic Center is stirring with energy and fun activities for the whole family. We started last weekend off with our Fair & Sunrise Hike, headed to the food pantry to package groceries for over 200 people, enjoyed a dinner with our New Horizon family, and closed with a presentation from Dr. Wayel Azmeh on the "Misconceptions About the Caliphate in Islam."

On Saturday, Apr. 9, the Guibord Center will be hosting an event called "Decoding Rituals and Symbols of Islam" at the Islamic Center.  The presentation and discussion will be led by Imam Jihad Turk, President of Bayan Claremont Graduate School and Advisory Council Member of The Guibord Center. This is a great opportunity to bring friends to learn about Islam in its context and meet local Muslims. Please RSVP for this event if you plan to attend.

What's new in our community?
Confidently Muslim newhorizon

by Hadir Elsayad (Principal of New Horizon LA)

On Saturday April 2, 2016, New Horizon Los Angeles hosted our 2016 Appreciation Dinner honoring the former principal Ms. Shahida Alikhan. The evening consisted of two heartfelt speeches and a delicious dinner. The first speaker, Shiekh Jamal Diwan reassured us that we are like seeds because people might try to bury us but instead we just grow. Next Mr. Shahed Amanullah reminded us to stay optimistic and showcased the amazing things that Muslims are doing all around the world. Students from NHSLA read Surahs from the Qur'an and sang a beautiful song. Ms. Shahida was then presented with the appreciation award and followed with a very sincere, emotional speech. It was a beautiful night filled with smiles and tears of joy. Thank you Ms. Shahida Alikhan for all that you have done to support our New Horizon School.
