UW Joins the Circus
|
Once again, the United Way of Windham County and New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA) are teaming up for a night of juggling clowns, flying trapezes and much more at this exciting, fundraising event to benefit United Way.
Come join the fun on Saturday night, May 11, 2013 at 7:00 pm. Enjoy the talents of the professional-track circus students of NECCA as they show off what they've learned this year during this family fun night at the Greenhoe Theater, Landmark College, Putney, VT.
Admission is $15 for adults, 12 and over, and $8 for children under 12. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased by clicking on this link to our website www.unitedwaywindham.org (just click on the circus flyer). Tickets will also be available for sale at the door the night of the performance.
Organized by United Way's Board of Directors, this fun, family event will help support the many United Way community impact programs in Windham County, including initiatives around Education, by helping adults, children and youth to achieve their potential; Income, by promoting financial stability and independence; and Health, by improving people's health and well being.
Refreshments will be on sale including popcorn, brownies, cookies, lemonade, water and juice.

Participant Driven Conference for Not-for-Profit Community Leaders and Partners to Share Collaboration Tools, Best Practices, and Successes Jodi Clark and Cassandra Holloway, graduate students of Marlboro College Graduate Schools Mission Driven Organizational Management Program, are offering this event to mission-driven organizations in Windham and Cheshire County. The peer conference format invites all participants to create the content of the conference that day. Skilled facilitator and peer conference designer Adrian Segar will lead the opening round table session. In the first session, attendees priorities for learning and activities will be gathered and will create the sessions for the day. HELP STAMP OUT HUNGER IN WNDHAM COUNTY!!

On Saturday, May 11, 2013, Campbell Soup Company will team up with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to collect food donations in communities across the nation to provide assistance to the millions of Americans who are struggling with hunger.
The Stamp Out Hunger food drive is a nationwide effort that provides food to local food banks and pantries that rely heavily on donations. With more than 50 million Americans living at risk of hunger, food banks across the country continue to experience record demand for emergency food assistance.
Here's how you can help Stamp Out Hunger - It's as easy as checking your mailbox. Just leave a bag of non-perishable food items by your mailbox on Saturday, May 11th, and your local letter carrier will then pick up and deliver the food to one of several local food banks in Windham County. Examples of non-perishable items include: Peanut butter Canned soup Canned meats and fish Canned vegetables, fruits and juices Boxed goods (such as cereal) Pasta and rice

| Saturday, April 27- 9:00 am - 4:00 pm The United Advanced Grant Writing Workshop -Tackling the Tough Topics; Stafford Technical Center, Rutland, VT. This workshop is designed for people who already have tried their hand at proposal writing. The workshop will cover those topics that often stymie those with great intentions: translating project ideas into clear, measurable goals and objectives; determining outcomes to demonstrate you've attained project goals; designing effective, easy-to-implement evaluation strategies; and building realistic budgets. You may bring in a current or past draft to share as an example. Cost is $129.00. Presentor: Anne Lezak, MPA, has extensive experience developing proposals for federal, state, and foundation grants. She teaches Masters-level courses in Grant Writing and Outcomes & Evaluation at Marlboro College Graduate School.
Saturday, May 4 - 7:30 am - 12:00 Noon Free Adult Dental Care Day - Registration: Elks Home, Putney, Rd, Brattleboro 7:30 am. Patients are served on a first come, first serve basis, evaluated by professional hygienists, then sent to local dental offices for services that day. This event is sponsored by United Way of Windham County and local participating dental offices. Dental services (filling & extractions only) will be available to Windham County residents 18 or older without the ability to pay for necessary dental care. $20 suggested donation.
Saturday, May 11 - 7:00 - 9:30 pm United Way Goes to the Circus! The UWWC and the New England Center for Circus Arts are joining up for a night of circus fun and frivolity at the Greenhoe Theater, Landmark College, Putney, VT. Saturday, May 18 - 7:00 - 9:30 pm A Taste of the Town is Winston Prouty Center's Annual Benefit and Auction. Proceeds from the event support the Prouty Center's programs and mission to provide inclusive early education and family support to promote the success of children and families. This year marks the 24th Taste, and will be held at the International Center at World Learning from 7:00 pm-9:30 pm on Saturday, May 18th. The Taste is an elegant affair with delicious samplings from area restaurants and caterers, beautiful flowers from local florists and a unique variety of items for auction from community businesses, artists and craftspeople. Saturday, May 18 - 10:00 am Annual Walk for Life 2013. Participants will gather at the American Legion at 10:00. The AIDS Project of Southern Vermont is honoring 26 years of effort by community members to support those living with HIV/AIDS and to reduce the risk of HIV transmission in southern Vermont. This year's Walk is in honor of Susan Bell who is retiring as Executive Director after 23 years of leadership in the community's fight against HIV/AIDS. Wednesdays, 4:00 - 5:00 pm Turning Point of Windham County and HCRS (Healthcare Rehabilitation Services) are collaborating on a Making Change support group for youth dealing with substance abuse issues. This model, created and implemented by Second Growth, engages young substance abusers and their friends in a user-friendly dialogue about choices and the first stages of change. The sixty-minute, open-ended weekly groups deliver information, motivation, and peer support addressing some of the most critical issues of early recovery for young people. Who should attend? Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Education (K-12) Online Course for one College Credit This interactive online survey course covers the full range of critical topics related to Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs education, prevention and intervention. Designed for adults who work with children or family systems and for educators (grades pre K-12 as well as higher education), the content of the course includes: pharmacology, chemical use continuum, chemical dependency in the family, societal and personal attitudes, policy and legal issues, support and referral for students in distress, curriculum development, school climate and drinking and driving.
