The GSSA Weekly from Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama

June 16, 2016

Welcome to GSSA Weekly, the council's e-newsletter.

At right, some of the happy campers at this year's Camp Sunshine!  Girl Scout staff and volunteers created an outstanding, week-long program for under-served girls in the Montgomery area.  Thanks to all our troops who donated hygiene products and other supplies for our campers!

Summer Scouts in Headland!

Join us on the evenings of July 7th and 8th, and the afternoon of July 9th, for a FREE, 3-afternoon/evening STEM-based program for girls (Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scouts) and their parents.

Is Your Girl Scout Having a Great Time at Camp?

Commemorate her fun at camp with an inscribed brick paver at Kamp Kiwanis!

Over the years, individual Girl Scouts, Troops, SUs and alums have placed brick pavers at the Sawyer-Weil Pavilion overlooking Lake Martin to mark their memories of camp, record Camporees, or thank their Troop Leaders.

You can, too -- just visit our Council Service Center shops or our online shop.  Whenever you visit Kamp Kiwanis, your memory will be waiting!
Price Increase on some Shop Items on July 1

GSUSA has raised the wholesale and retail price on some of our shop items, as of July 1.  These include Polos, Scarves, Volunteer Pins, Metal Award Pins, Girl's Guide to GS binders, Level-Specific Award Pins, and Troop Crests, plus a few other items.

If you are planning to purchase any of these items for the upcoming Girl Scout year, please consider purchasing them now to avoid the price increase.  Shop at our council Service Center shops or our online shop.

Thank You, Volunteers

The end of the school year has again rolled around very quickly. It is amazing how time flies by in the blink of an eye, and it is simply amazing.
This time of year, we receive many invitations to end of the year events and activities, which are always so much fun to attend. It is clear that you do so much for our girls, and I want to take some time to say thank you to those of you who make this endeavor possible.   Recently, I have been privileged to be in the presence of some tremendous volunteers.   I have witnessed great recognitions for the girls; girls who have learned to speak in public, finding their own voice, and accomplishing great things.   We have seen girls making wonderful end-of-the-year mementos that will have meaning and value for them.
We have seen girls walking across bridges, moving into a different part of their journey, and exploring new paths.   We have had the opportunity to celebrate all the girls who have earned their Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards.   But we also have seen hundreds of girls earning all sorts of badges.

Other Opportunities
Because we want our girls to have many learning (and fun!) opportunities, we offer this additional calendar for programs that are not presented by our council. Some of these programs are presented by our volunteer Troops and Service Units, others are put on by groups in the communities we serve. Calendar listings do not imply endorsement by the council.  This calendar is available on our Events & Programs page
Please contact the volunteer listed in the program for more information and program status.
