Welcome to GSSA Weekly, the council's e-newsletter.
At right, Troop 5180 sewed cloth hearts for babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as part of their Bronze Award. The moms would wear the hearts, then place them in the cribs with their babies so the children would get to know their scent.
The girls enjoyed meeting some of the moms of the NICU babies and were so happy to feel their efforts helped premature babies bond with their mothers. This is such a great project and touched all our mothering hearts! This year we won't be talking AT you -- we'll be listening and sharing. Our baker has created lots of instructional videos to help answer questions 24/7, so we can focus on talking about your specific questions! (And having a Lemonade Party, of course!)
Here's the link to sign up in all areas of the council. See you there!

Juliette Low was Unique (Like our Girls). Happy Birthday, Juliette!
|

Recently, I was reading a biography of Juliette Gordon Low, who was an interesting and pioneering woman on many levels. Even as a child, she was considered kind and good-natured, but eccentric. Many of her experiments in kindness went awry. Unlike other girls of her age and social position, she loved to hike, play tennis, and ride horses. Again, areas atypical of her social station for the times. Undaunted, she always felt she needed a purpose in life. After meeting Robert Baden-Powell, she started what is now today's Girl Scouts. When she saw how the many activities built self-confidence in girls, she found the purpose in life she was seeking. How often do we see someone else who is a tad eccentric, enjoys activities her peers do not, and has a kind heart although things don't always work out? We don't always know what lies ahead for the girls we serve. But among them there will be more Juliette Gordon Lows, we just don't know it. We can only hope all the girls we serve have the courage, confidence, and character to change their world as she changed hers. Happy Birthday to our Founder, Juliette Gordon Low, who was born 155 years ago this week!

Other Opportunities
|
Because we want our girls to have many learning (and fun!) opportunities, we offer this additional calendar for programs that are not presented by our council. Some of these programs are presented by our volunteer Troops and Service Units, others are put on by groups in the communities we serve. Calendar listings do not imply endorsement by the council. This calendar is available on our Events & Programs page
Please contact the volunteer listed in the program for more information and program status.
