The GSSA Weekly from Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama

May 21, 2015

Welcome to GSSA Weekly, the council's e-newsletter.

At right, members of Troop 9171 visited the Ronald McDonald House in Atlanta, Ga.

They delivered donations that had been collected by troops in SU 923 for the families in residence.

The girls also took a guided tour of the facility and learned about the Ronald McDonald House organization.  This was an incredible experience for these Girl Scouts to learn about selfless service!

Recruitment Event: Bring a Friend Painting Party

Daisies and Brownies -- bring a non-registered friend with you to a painting party at the Tipsy Easel in Dothan on July 9.

We'll have a great time creating a painting and learning about all the fun things Girl Scouts do!

M3: An Evening of Pampering for Adults!

Doesn't an evening with chair massages, manicures, and adult beverages inspired by Girl Scout Cookies sound delightful?

Grab your adult girlfriends and spend Friday, June 12 at our benefit event, Manicures, Massages, & Merriment!

Proceeds will support programming for Girl Scouts in our council area, so this is a perfect way to look good, feel good, and do good! See you there!

Girl Earned Awards (Bronze, Silver & Gold)

Girls can do anything!
Each year we have a group of girls that are highly accomplished and do amazing things.   It is wonderful to see them grow over the years and watch them give back to their community through their award projects.  We have a great group of girls that provide all types of community service through their awards.

A large number of Junior troops earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award during the past year, and many more are currently working on projects in their communities. Here are a few examples from across the council:

  •          Daphne Troop 8186 is working on a permanent geocache course at Camp Scoutshire      Woods for other girls to enjoy.

  •          Troop 9349 from Enterprise helped the local animal shelter by painting some of the            rooms and collecting needed items.

  •          Troop 9261 in Ozark created an outdoor education garden at their school that included      upcycling milk jugs into automatic watering containers, painting stepping stones, and        leading a group of more than 50 students to plant a variety of plants.

  •          Loxley Troop 8393 volunteered and collected items for a horse rescue shelter.

The Girl Scout Silver Award is earned by Cadettes and is a stepping stone for the Gold Award. Here are a few of our excellent projects from this past year:
