The GSSA Weekly from Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama

January 8, 2014

Welcome to GSSA Weekly, the council's e-newsletter.

At right, Troop 9327 brought joy and the holiday spirit to residents of an adult care facility by visiting and singing to them.

What a lovely way to celebrate the holidays!

Cookie Bites -- COCO FAQs

We've had some questions; we hope these answers are helpful. You can always call us at 800/239-6636 and talk with Teri or Cheryl with concerns.

What is Digital Cookie?

This is another name for COCO - your online Cookie Command Center.

What's the difference between COCO, COCOdirect and COCOmobile?
COCO is your online "command center" for your cookie business -- where you set goals, make plans, and contact your friends and family about placing an order, so you can deliver the cookies locally.

COCOdirect is a feature of COCO --you send ecards to potential customers, and they can click on the secure link to place orders with their credit card for cookies. These cookies are shipped directly to them.

COCOmobile is an app for your smart device -- it has all the features of COCOdirect, PLUS you can enter and track your orders. You can even take orders when you are out and about!

Free Patches for Free Being Me Program

Did you know that six out of ten girls stop doing what they love because they feel bad about the way they look?

GSUSA and Dove have partnered to create the Free Being Me curriculum.  We have a limited number of free patches available for troops who participate.  Please contact Karen Edmondson at [email protected] for more information.

Happy New Year!

We hope the New Year brings peace, wisdom, and many gifts that feed your soul.

Did you make any New Year's resolutions?   What are they?   I've made a few, and we'll see how it goes.   Some years I make them, and I follow through.   When this happens, they do change how I enjoy the year and life.  The experts on a tv program I was watching recently said most resolutions are broken within a month, long forgotten.

One of my resolutions is to be a better friend to my many friends.   I have wonderful friends who are supportive.   They lend a listening ear.   They remember my birthday, visit my mother when I sometimes can't, and they are simply there when I need them.   I believe it is important to be as good a friend to my friends as I possibly can.   Do you teach girls to be good friends through troop meetings, programs, and activities you do through Girl Scouts?   I suspect you do.

During the holidays, one of my friends lost her husband.   He came home on Friday evening and had a heart attack.   She did CPR on him until the ambulance arrived.   They got him to the hospital where they operated and installed three stents.   He had been to the doctor 15 days before and pronounced in excellent health.

Some of these programs are presented by our volunteer Troops and Service Units, others are put on by groups in the communities we serve. Calendar listings do not imply endorsement by the council.  This calendar is available on our Events & Programs page

Please contact the volunteer listed in the program for more information and program status.
