Welcome to GSSA Weekly, the council's e-newsletter.
At right, members of Troop 8393 devoted a week of their summer to help present Vacation Bible School to cognitively-challenged adults at the troop's sponsor church, Loxley United Methodist. The girls taught songs and movements, served meals, and presented crafts each evening.
Excellent community service, Troop 8393!

Scouting for Food - Gulf Region |
Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama has teamed up with the Mobile Area Council of the Boy Scouts to support "Scouting for Food" 2014.
"Scouting for Food," the nation's largest single-day food drive, will be held Saturday, November 8. Girl Scouts in Baldwin, Clarke, Mobile, and Washington counties are invited to participate. Event sponsor Greer's Markets and Food Tiger Stores will provide collection sites and 100,000 bags for distribution. All food collected will be given to the Bay Area Food Bank to benefit families in need.

Scouting for Food Poster Contest - Council-wide |
Your poster could be featured on the food barrels at each Greer's location, letting people know that Girl Scouts are "Scouting for Food"
Posters should be on a 16 x 22 inch paper and say "Scouting for Food" and Greer's.
Important: on the back of the poster, please write girl's name, Troop #, leader's name, and SU #. All entries must be turned into the Mobile Girl Scout Council front office by
Monday, September 29.

Time for Some Fun!
|
The new recruitment year is in full swing, and we are working hard to recruit more girls so they can experience how to change the world through Girl Scouts.
We were fortunate to have members of Troops 7230 and 7238 at the GSSA Board of Directors meeting. The board was able to speak with three of their older girls. What a great conversation they had. It was clear this troop is girl led, and they had plenty to say about what they were learning, what they had learned and their plans for the future. This group rocks! It is amazing to see what girls can do when they set their goals and then work toward them. We would like for all girls who want this experience to have it!
On the GSSA website (www.girlscoutssa.org/join), we are posting all the recruitment events across the council. Please let your field executive know if you are having a recruitment event, so we are certain we have all of them listed. Also, we are working hard to coordinate what the field executives do with what the service units are planning. Please be sure your field executive has the complete list because this is how everything is listed, and those staff at the service centers has the information so we can accurately respond to calls. Information and coordination are critical to maximize success.

Because we want our girls to have many learning (and fun!) opportunities, we offer this additional calendar for programs that are not presented by our council. Some of these programs are presented by our volunteer Troops and Service Units, others are put on by groups in the communities we serve. Calendar listings do not imply endorsement by the council. This calendar is available on our Events & Programs page
