Indian Wooden Statue The Cigar Life
Ever wonder why there's a life-size wooden statue of a Native American standing outside of your favorite cigar shop? The history and significance of the cigar store Indian dates back to 17th century Europe. Due to the high illiteracy rate at the time, shop owners started to use symbols and figures as opposed to written signage to advertise their goods. Tobacco shop owners distinguished themselves by placing a single life-size wooden Indian statue outside, in front of their shops. It was appropriate that the Indian was used to symbolize tobacco shops in this tradition that originated in Europe because the American Indians were the ones who acquainted the Europeans with the sensational tobacco crop. Whether you're for 'em or not, the cigar store Indian is a tradition. CLICK HERE: to continue >

History of Montecristo
by YumaCigars.com In July 1935, Alonso Menéndez purchased the Particulares Factory. Immediately after its acquisition, he created a new brand named Montecristo. The name for the brand was inspired by the Alexandre Dumas, père novel The Count of Monte Cristo, which was a popular choice among the torcedores (cigar rollers) in their factory to have read by the lector (one who reads) on the rolling floor. The Montecristo logo, consisting of a triangle of six swords surrounding a fleur-de-lis, was designed by John Hunter Morris of Elkan Co. Ltd., the brand's British distributor. After the Cuban Revolution in 1961, the operation was moved to La Romana in the Dominican Republic and released for the US market, where Cuba's rights to the brand weren't recognized due to the U.S. Embargo. Today cigar master José Seijas oversees the Montecristo brand at the Tabacalera de Garcia factory in the Dominican Republic. CLICK HERE to continue >
