Rescuing Liberty from coast to coast

December 18, 2014

There's still time before it's all wrapped up

December 31st is the last day of the year to make a 2014 charitable contribution to Pacific Legal Foundation.  As a donor-supported, non-profit legal organization, it's our mission to keep overreaching government off the backs and out of the lives of regular Americans.

Your gifts give us the strength to go toe-to-toe with the nation's most powerful government agencies -- like the EPA, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the California Coastal Commission.

We need your help to keep fighting and winning cases.  Donate today to help us keep the pressure on bureaucrats who think the Constitution is a relic of the past.

There's a multitude of ways you can help PLF with a year-end tax-deductible gift such as cash or appreciated stock, and IRA distributions.  In fact, donations made to qualified charities before year's end can result in substantial tax savings.

Gifts of appreciated stock have become a very popular way to support charitable causes.  By donating securities, rather than selling them, you can avoid capital gains taxes.  The more appreciation the securities have, the greater the tax savings will be.

An important charitable opportunity -- the Charitable IRA Rollover -- has been reauthorized by Congress through December 31, 2014, but we are still awaiting the president's signature on this bill for it to become law.  This law would allow qualified IRA owners 70-1/2 years or older to make federal tax-free transfers of up to $100,000 per year for charitable purposes.  The amount transferred is not reportable income and it counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution.  An added benefit is the fact that the law would be retroactive to January 1, if you made a direct transfer to a qualified charity sometime earlier this year.  Keep in mind that it often takes IRA administrators several days/weeks to process rollover transactions, so contact your IRA custodian right away to confirm the passage of the bill and initiate the transfer.  Instruct them to make the check payable to Pacific Legal Foundation and send it to 930 G Street, Sacramento, CA  95814.

PLF is a nonprofit, tax-exempt foundation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, tax ID# 94-2197343.  Because PLF is a tax-exempt charity, donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

Time is quickly running out.  December 31 is the last day of the year and the deadline for making your year-end donation to PLF.  Giving to freedom -- donations of cash or appreciated stock and IRA distributions -- has never been easier.  Gifts of cash are fully deductible up to 50% of adjusted gross income.  Write your check and mail it today.

Your mailed gifts must be postmarked by December 31, 2014, to qualify as a tax-deductible gift for 2014.  Or for added convenience, make gifts online at PLF's secure website at www.pacificlegal.org.
