Friends of Midcoast Maine and the Towns of Thomaston and Camden will be hosting Dan Burden, the "walkability guru" on May 21 and 22, 2012. The workshops will include Walk Audits, led by Dan Burden of the Walkable and Livable Communities Institute (www.walklive.org). Since 1996, Dan has personally helped 3,500 communities throughout the world become more livable and walkable.

In Thomaston, "A Community Workshop - Sidewalks, Streets, and Stores: Ideas for a Thriving Downtown" will be held on Monday, May 21 at 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., beginning at Watts Hall in downtown Thomaston. Please join us in this workshop to share your ideas and explore potential improvements to Thomaston's downtown to improve retail life, downtown walkability, traffic flow and social interaction. Register Today for Thomaston Community Workshop

In Camden, "Making it Happen: A Walkable Downtown that Creates Economic Vitality" will be held at the Washington Street Conference Room in  Town Hall on Tuesday, May 22 from 9 am to 3 p.m. This interactive, hands-on workshop is designed to turn recommendations into action. A walkable downtown enhances job creation, social interaction, and the economic vitality of a community. Building upon the goals and recommendations in Camden's Downtown Master Plan, workshop leader Dan Burden of the Walkable and Livable Communities Institute will take participants on a "walk audit" of Camden, and explore ways to improve existing conditions. Register TODAY for Camden Workshop

Participants will leave with specific ideas to put into action and tools to take back to their own communities.  The fee is free for Camden and Thomaston residents, business owners and tax payers and $10/day for everyone else and includes a light dinner on Monday in Thomaston and a light lunch on Tuesday in Camden.  Register Today! for one or both workshops. Space is limited.

Please share this e-mail with your friends and colleagues.
