Youth Engagement
Lincoln Academy students have the ability to make Damariscotta a better place for youth and young adults. The Damariscotta Planning Advisory Committee (DPAC) is hoping to work with the local schools to find out what students want to see happen in their community and what might interest them to stay and live in their community after they graduate, and to more actively involve them in local events, issues, organizations and decision making processes.
On February 9th a group of Lincoln Academy students, hosted by LA teacher Bryan Manahan, met with DPAC members Marianne Pinkham and Heather Bolint as well as Jane Lafleur, coordinator of Damariscotta's "Heart and Soul" initiative. They asked the students many questions about their involvement in the community, such as where they choose to hang out after school and why, what kind of places would they like to frequent, and what they think Damariscotta needs to be a better place.
Next week DPAC members will meet again with LA students to futher discuss these and additional ideas and decide how to move forward with some of them.. Stay tuned for more information! |
