Tuesday was primary and special election day in Pennsylvania. Here are the outcomes of some of the more notable races.
In Harrisburg, incumbent Linda Thompson lost the Democratic primary to business leader Eric Papenfuse. In Pittsburgh, former City Council President Bill Peduto beat former State Senator and Auditor General Jack Wagner and current State Representative Jake Wheatley in the Democratic mayoral primary.

Democrat Joe Waters defeated opponent Jack McVay for Superior Court and will now advance to the General Election where he will face Republican candidate Vic Stabile. Stabile was unopposed in the GOP primary.
Democrat Dan Miller was the victor in the special election to fill the house seat of State Senator Matt Smith (D-Allegheny) in the 42nd District. Miller beat Republican Dan Remely 59-39. In the special election in York County to fill the 95th District seat vacated by Auditor General Eugene DePasquale, Democrat Kevin Schrieber defeated Republican Brian Tate.
Philadelphia Controller Alan Butkovitz remains the Democratic nominee for his position after beating challenger Brett Mandel nearly 2 to 1. This immediately makes the former state representative a contender for mayor in two years. Butkovitz, meanwhile, will square off against Republican challenger Terry Tracey in the fall.
In our upper Northwest corner, former U.S. Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper unseated the incumbent Erie County Executive Barry Grossman for the Democratic nomination 52-48. Dahlkemper is highly favored over Republican nominee Don Tucci. |
