Insurance Needs

A message from Todd Whiteman of Enscoe Long

"As we begin a new year CAAP members are again faced with budget issues for 2013.  Enscoe Long would like to provide each CAAP member organization with an option to reduce their insurance and risk management costs.

We appreciate the response to the survey in the 4th quarter of 2012 and would like to make sure we get a strong understanding of the needs from all members.  With that in mind, if you have not completed the survey yet we ask that you please take a few minutes and respond. This will ensure that the needs of all CAAP members are addressed.  For the last 12 months insurance rates have been on the rise and regionally there will be a greater increase due to unexpected insurance events such as Hurricane Sandy. We don't want CAAP members to be blind sided by the increases expected this year.

Now is a great time for an independent review of your insurance program and an opportunity to receive competitive quotes. I'm looking forward to the 2013 CAAP conference and the opportunity to address any questions you might have."

 In the Nick of Time
The United States House of Representatives voted Thursday on legislation that funds the federal government until September, thwarting a shutdown of government services.

They also eked out a Republican budget framework that echoes the party's desire to create a balanced budget with a flatter tax code and a reduced role for the federal government before adjourning for two weeks.

And they say Congress can't get things done...
   The Most Happening

CAAP member Bucks County Opportunity Council recently was named as the "Bucks Charity 2013" by Bucks Happening.

The Community Action Agency won over 22 other charities in the area. Congratulations.

 Could It Really Happen?
Last evening the State House, by a vote of 105-90, passed House Bill 790, which privatizes the wine and spirits stores in the state along with the wholesale distribution system.

It is the first time such a bill passed any chamber and now heads to the State Senate where hearings will likely be held on it.
 Cheesesteak, Anyone?
A study conducted by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Wisconsin Population Health Institute shows that Philadelphia is the unhealthiest county in Pennsylvania.

It also ranks highest among four adjacent counties in sexually transmitted diseases, teen births, uninsured residents, smoking and obesity rates, high school dropouts, violent crime and single-parent homes.

The healthiest counties include Union, Centre, Cumberland, Snyder and uber-healthy #1 Chester County.
