World Tai Chi Day
|
Compassionate toward yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world ...
When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you. -- Lao tzu, Tao Te Ching
Why in the world are we here?
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on Earth are you there?
When you're everywhere
Come and get your share!
Well, we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah, we all shine on
C'mon and on and on, on, on
Who on Earth do you think you are?
A superstar? Well, right you are
And we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
-- John Lennon, Instant Karma (We All Shine On)
Dear World Tai Chi & Qigong Day Supporters,
In one, or two, days (depending on where you are on the planet) we will all "shine on" as we breath and flow, and allow that Qi, that life energy to expand through our hearts, our minds, and our entire being, group and planet. What a spectacular image we provide the world each year. Don't you agree?
Providing such a spectacularly beautiful image of Earth's children "playing together" has a world altering impact, even beyond the millions we've educated about Tai Chi & Qigong health benefits ...
Mind-body meditative practices research is showing that our physical brain is actually changed by such practices. Reports from schools employing mind-body techniques find that bullying rates decrease. While emerging science research is showing that our brains are physically changed to operate in more compassionate, empathetic, more open-minded and less reactionary ways. Many of us experience this in our own lives as we practice mind-body arts, people in our lives finding us easier to get along with, and as teachers we hear stories from students who experience the same thing. I had an ER physician I gave private lessons to, and he came in one week and quoted his ER staff, who had said, "Man, we don't know what you've been doing, but keep doing it. You are WAY EASIER TO GET ALONG WITH than you used to be!"
By spreading mind-body meditative arts in the world, we literally change the world -- one central nervous system at a time ... but also this global spectacle of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day has a global impact beyond personal health.
When we come together as a global Tai Chi and Qigong family to provide media worldwide (see below about contacting your local Associated Press office and media about your WTCQD 2015 event), we have another world altering effect ... we give the world a hard dose of the reality that we do not have to, in John Lennon's words, "live in pain and fear," because the image of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day--of people all over the planet, connecting and celebrating health and healing together--is much closer to reality than the media spin doctors leave viewers and readers thinking. Media often paints an image of pain and fear because it is the easiest way to rivet viewers and sell ad space ... BUT IT IS NOT HEALTHY, AND IT IS NOT REALITY.
Tai Chi and Qigong teachers, at their heart, are stress management instructors. The stress management qualities of these mind-body arts are the core of why they help treat heart disease, type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc. etc. Thousands of years of Chinese research evolved these highly effective stress management technologies the world is now enjoying ... sooooo, we should make our students aware that media's distorted image of the world is causing stress that is unnecessary, and based on a false premise ... which WTCQD celebrations carried by media worldwide are an antidote to.
Mass media imprints human consciousness with a constant barrage of images of violence and conflict. "If it bleeds, it leads" is the old newspaper editor's quote. Fact is, the world is quite the opposite of the distorted image the world is given by most mass media -- in fact, the planet is
less violent
than at any time in human history, and
violent crime is dropping dramatically
in most of the world.
We believe our world is riddled with terror and war,
but we may be living in the most peaceable era in
human existence.
-- Wall Street Journal, Violence Vanquished,
by Steven Pinker, September 24, 2011
I refer all my Tai Chi student's to Dr. Pinker's profound scholarly case of the planet being less violent today than at any time in human history. The book is "The Better Angels of Our Nature-Why Violence has Declined." I share this with my students because it further releases mental stress to understand this reality, and the backbone of my class instruction is stress management, because stress is what will kill most of our students, not other human beings. -- Bill Douglas, WTCQD Founder
World Tai Chi & Qigong Day, via mass media work and the global wave of health & healing events, provides the world an anti-dote from the delusion of despair and separation media reports leave viewers with. It leaves us feeling connected ...
SO, WHAT MAKES WORLD TAI CHI & QIGONG DAY THE MOST PROFOUND GLOBAL EVENT?
Here is what makes World Tai Chi & Qigong Day so amazingly profound. There are other international events where people of many nations come together ... but few of them are free and open to the general public, and fewer still involve everyone's participation. However, what really makes this annual event we all create together so amazingly unique ... is that there is no other such global event that causes all participants to ... "share a feeling" ... in the way Tai Chi and Qigong, the Internal Arts, do.
Milano, Italia's WTCQD 2015 Announcement
When Angela and I met with Tai Chi researcher, Professor William Tsang, at Hong Kong Polytechnic University I demonstrated a Tai Chi Short Form that we'd found to be very useful and effective for people dealing with movement disorders, and other health challenges.
When I was finishing, Professor Tsang was commenting to my wife about "that look on my face" as I flowed through the Tai Chi forms. Anyone who has practiced the Internal Arts for many years knows that look, and actually know what that person is feeling ... that sense of soong or surrender ... when we sink into our movements and are flowed by them ... we let go of our grip on who we are and flow into something new, something larger, lighter, more open hearted and open minded.
Take 15 minutes and view the below short World Tai Chi & Qigong Day videos and you will see "that look" shared by all of Earth's children, when immersed in the field of Qi, life energy.
What is amazing about doing so is that in that moment, you see in their faces, and in the lovely parks and city squares worldwide ... not people in devestated war zones of despair, as media would leave us thinking the world exists in ... no, what we see are people of all religions, ethnicities, and across all geopolitical borders ... feeling the same sense of Qi, life energy, that we do ... we see in that moment of commonality people who love their kids, worry about their jobs, their parents, and the mundane trials of life that we all deal with .... because of "that look" that they have on their faces, that same look we all get when we feel our Qi, that leaves us feeling more at one with ourselves and the world ... this feeling these images communicate evidences our commonality,
THIS IS REALITY -- WE GIVE THE WORLD A DOSE OF REALITY EACH YEAR VIA OUR GLOBAL EVENTS, AND MEDIA WORK!
A human being is a part of a whole, called by us a universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest ... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
-- Albert Einstein
Within the beautiful rainbow of human diversity ... there is a oneness just below the surface, in that deeper place where our minds drift to when immersed in the Qi and we all understand on the deepest level we are part of ...
One World ... One Breath
There is no such global celebration as World Tai Chi & Qigong Day.
What a profound legacy for the global Tai Chi and Qigong family to have marked our world with ... providing an annual vision of the human family "playing together." ... all connected at such a deep transcendental level.
