JUST IN - HUGE BREAKTHROUGH!
Dear World Tai Chi & Qigong Day Supporters,
Exciting news! Egyptian WTCQD organizers in Cairo are really providing an example of what is possible.
This year, Egypt's World Tai Chi & Qigong Day - World Healing Day event will be co-sponsored by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, and by the Chinese Embassy and India's Embassy in Cairo, Egypt!
When Angie and I met with the U.S. Consulate Cultural Affairs Dept. in Hong Kong, we were told embassy's main mission was to facilitate inter-cultural relations between the U.S. and their host nation. WTCQD is a PERFECT event for Embassies worldwide to support -- as WTCQD events have been held in over 80 nations! Egyptian WTCQD organizers are creating a template for the world!
Also, the Philippine WTCQD organizers are working on a national Congressional proclamation of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day as a nationally noted date for the last Saturday of April each year.

THE HUMAN POETRY THAT IS
WORLD TAI CHI & QIGONG DAY
What a decade and a half of organizing
World Tai Chi & Qigong Day, and viewing
more Tai Chi and Qigong photos and videos
of people than any human being has ever seen
... has taught us ... is that "beauty" is not a
matter of bone structure or surface features,
as modern advertising tries to convince us ...
it is something deeper ... and all Earth's children
become so incredibly beautiful when we "let go"
of all the things we grip unconsciously in the
world ... and we "open" to the flow of Qi, just
waiting to radiate from us as we allow the
movements to flow us ... as we let go
around them ... and sink deeply into them.
This issue of our global WorldTaiChiDay.org
Ezine is dedicated to the profound beauty of
our humanbeing-ness ... and of our global
Tai Chi and Qigong family.

Really Gorgeous Event!
"The way we think of being "self-conscious" is
actually the opposite, because that would
mean we are affected most by other's gaze
than our own internal rhythms. The Internal
Arts of Tai Chi and Qigong help us sink
deeply into our center ... to become TRULY
... self-conscious ... and in those fleeting
moments, immersed in the field of Qi,
we know on the most visceral level that
we are ... connected to everyone and everything
... more at home in our bodies and our world."
-- Bill Douglas, Founder of
World Tai Chi & Qigong Day
This newsletter is about the human poetry that is World Tai Chi & Qigong Day. One thing 16 years of organizing events spanning 100s of cities and 80 nations does is to open your eyes. You see a world that the media does not often talk about ... and that is the commonality of human beings worldwide.
I once demonstrated a Tai Chi Short Form I had created for Parkinson's patients in the University of Kansas Hospital, for professor William Tsang at Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Tai Chi Research Lab. Professor Tsang commented to my wife, Angela, about "That look," on my face, saying the Tai Chi masters they brought in for studies all had that same look. Anyone who has "let go" in their Tai Chi and Qigong practice and been flowed by the movements, there are those fleeting moments when we feel at one with it, not controlling it, but sensing that flow, that lightness of being ... immersed in the field of Qi that is all existence.
And when we see others around our planet, all on the same day, sharing the Internal Arts, the meditative arts, we see that look on all the diverse faces of our planet ... and that motto we took on years ago ... One World -- One Breath ... becomes a reality you can see with your own eyes, and it is moving. A deep bow to Chinese culture for sharing these extraordinary gifts with the entire planet, that are now connecting the whole planet in a way that is deep and profound. From here at WorldTaiChiDay.org, me and Angie extend a deep bow of gratitude to all participating in World Tai Chi & Qigong Day 2015 in only 14 days from today, April 25, 2015, 10 am worldwide.
A great thing about organizing World Tai Chi & Qigong Day has been to see how beautiful the human family as we are connected via our global love for the Chinese mind-body arts of Tai Chi and Qigong ... but the unique ways Americans and Brazilians, and Australians, and Egyptians celebrate World Tai Chi & Qigong Day is what is most fun and beautiful about this event.
When we were in Perth, Australia as a guest of WTCQD organizers, Bev Abeya (Tai Chi @ The Beach), the event, held on sacred Aboriginal grounds, began with an Aboriginal dance. We don't have this dance on the below video, but we do have a stunning presentations of WTCQD events held all over the gorgeous cities throughout Australia.

GORGEOUS VIDEO TOUR OF AUSTRALIA
We just got this amazing video from Cairo, Egypt's 2014 WTCQD and WHD event, which included Sufi Dancers. Sufi's were ancient mystics whose seminal author was known as Rumi.
Rumi's insights into the transitory nature of reality were often synonymous with Lao Tzu's Tao te Ching which became useful for many teachers by offering a textual description of some of the deep experiences of Tai Chi and Qigong Meditations. Sufi dancers practice a form of mindful dance, a mind-body meditative practice--Sufi Dance, and the philosophy Rumi embodied is known as Sufism.
"What you seek is seeking you."
"To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders."
-- Lao Tzui
At 4:40 on the below video you can see the beautiful video of the Sufi Dancers at Cairo, Egypt's World Tai Chi & Qigong Day - World Healing Day event organized by Mohamed Essa. HOWEVER, we highly recommend you start at the beginning, it is a gorgeous video with children doing Tai Chi, a women's Tai Chi group, and other meditative practices as well. Please share this lovely film, it is obvious the Egyptians put a ton of work into this production.

But, first an insight into a side effect of getting the world to loosen their bodies, hearts and minds with the Moving Meditations of Tai Chi and Qigong ... it can help us roll with the intensifying demand for changes in a world where our population will have QUADRUPLED in only ONE GENERATION.
Emerging research is proving that such meditative mind-body techniques can increase brain size, boost mental acuity, but also change brain function to be more open-minded and less likely to reject new concepts.
And in this changing world ... this ability is a very important tool for the future.
GLOBAL QI - HOW TC & QIGONG CAN CHANGE THE WORLD ...
Our generation is being forced to change faster than any generation in history as in one lifetime the planet's population will have QUADRUPLED ... EVERYTHING IS CHANGING SO FAST.
Tai Chi and Qigong offer many benefits, but not least among them is they force us to learn how to breathe, loosen, and "let go" mentally, emotionally, and physically ... because this allows the body to relax so Qi can flow through us, and improve our health ... HOWEVER, THERE IS ANOTHER SIDE EFFECT THEY CAN OFFER ... this constant practice of "letting go" can enable us to let go of our grip on old ways, and embrace change.
As technology changes so rapidly, what holds human progress back, is not the ability to improve things in vast ways, but the human mind's inability to un-grip from old patterns, and open to new ones.

TAI CHI & IMMUNE SYSTEM:
In their randomized-control-trial study, Tai Chi alone was found to increase participants' immunity to varicella as much as the vaccine typically produces in 30- to 40-year-old adults, and Tai Chi combined with the vaccine produced a significantly higher level of immunity, about a 40 percent increase, over that produced by the vaccine alone. The study further showed that the Tai Chi group's rate of increase in immunity over the course of the 25-week study was double that of the control group

As Founders of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day we have traveled the globe meeting Tai Chi teachers worldwide ... and what we discovered was that our decades of Tai Chi experience only touched the surface of possibility ... every teacher we met had something useful to share that would improve our teaching.
It did not matter what Style of Tai Chi or Qigong they taught, the basic principles are all the same, and the challenges of helping people new to Tai Chi and Qigong are universal to teachers of ALL STYLES.
In our weekly Ezine Newsletters, which are FREE, we highlight various teaching tips from teachers worldwide, so that we can all become better teachers. None of us know it all ... just like no Photoshop expert knows all of Photoshop, each expert knows parts, and when they share tips, they all get better at it.
For example, Sifu Bruce Frantzis offers video tips on how to explain Tai Chi's universal concepts shared by all styles, in ways that are direct, concise and useful to all teachers. We have studied and taught Tai Chi for over 30 years, and Bruce's explanations have helped improve our teaching. You may find them so as well.
|Common Mistakes When Practicing Tai Chi|
Another example is Sifu and author, Arthur Rosenfeld, in his book "Tai Chi - The Perfect Exercise" he writes about how the key to success with Tai Chi isn't strength, dexterity, etc. ... it is the willingness to be okay with "bewilderment."
As teachers we see that students cannot wrap their heads around hundreds of years of Tai Chi evolution in a day, or a week, or a decade, it unfolds and expands through us over time. Letting students know this can help them greatly.
Another Tai Chi teacher we met, was Elizabeth Keith in Phoenix, Arizona (USA) who when doing Single Whip Down, or Snake Creeps Down, her students called it "Putting Dishes in the Dishwasher."
After that we used her insight to explain that "pushes" and "punches" in Tai Chi, when done correctly, will change the way you "mow the lawn" or "shovel snow" or "rake leaves." This constant emphasis on "practical application in our daily lives" that Tai Chi and Qigong can offer is a powerful way to help students see why these arts are more than just a once a week thing ... they are a way of life that will improve the way you do EVERYTHING.
Another Tai Chi teacher, Linda Bowers, who taught for local colleges and the Kansas State Women's Prison, re-named "Partition of the Wild Horse's Mane" as "Navigating the After Christmas Sale at Macy's Department Store." Interjecting "humor" into a class can totally unload pressure and frustrations students can get, and enable them to "relax open" to your teaching.
These are just a few of the valuable "Teachers as a Community -- Not Competitors" resources we offer in our FREE WorldTaiChiDay.org Ezine Email Newsletters.
We are in a unique position that most teachers don't have, which is that we know Tai Chi and Qigong teachers worldwide, and scan for useful tips that we share freely with you and your students who sign up for our free email newsletters.
GLOBAL QI! Putting Qi into Action!
Moving beyond "hate" in politics ...
from WorldTaiChiDay.org ...
Chinese character for "Love"
"Being deeply loved by someone gives you
strength, while loving someone deeply
gives you courage."
-- Lao Tzu, Tao te Ching
used by Tai Chi & Qigong teachers for
centuries, to help understand the ebb
and flow of life energy
Tai Chi and Qigong enable us to regularly let go of what we squeeze in our heart, mind, and body, so that we can become something new, lighter, more able to let Qi and life flow through us without feeling like we have to tighten up to brace against change and possibility. This is a great evolutionary tool for us as individuals, and as a society and world.
-- Bill Douglas, WorldTaiChiDay.org
How "Hate" Lets Us Off the Hook
No matter our location in the political universe (left, right, center, radical, conservative, whatever!), there is an intense pull to define ourselves by our enemies - the folks we "hate." They are the personification of violence and injustice. In fact, they're often figured as the sources of violence and injustice, erasing those forces' structural roots. (Consider the persistent calls to "jail the bankers," as if imprisoning individuals is the key to addressing the destruction wrought by capitalism.)
Meanwhile, we often frame these enemies as perpetrators of "hate." As Kay Whitlock and Michael Bronski outline in their brilliant new book, Considering Hate, we are all much more likely to view hate as residing elsewhere - not within ourselves, but within inferior others, whom we can distain and distance ourselves from. Our political realities become determined by whom we are against.
In their book, Whitlock and Bronski dedicate themselves to both interrogating the hate frame - digging into its history, its construction, its uses, its tactics - and moving beyond it. They ask: "What would it look like to disentangle hate from justice, and replace the language of hate with that of goodness?" What does the language of goodness even look like, and how do we imagine our way there? In the following interview, Whitlock and Bronski illuminate the anatomy of hate - and show how a transformative imagination, built on compassion and an acknowledgement of interdependence, can guide our way forward.
