"Simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures. Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being. Patient with both friends and enemies, you accord with the way things are. Compassionate toward yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world." -- Laozi, Tao Te Ching
JUST IN from National Qigong Association!
The last Saturday of April has become the day that the world
celebrates unity through breath and movement by practicing Tai Chi and Qigong at 10:00AM. World Tai Chi and Qigong Day founder Bill Douglas has been a great supporter of the NQA for years, and the NQA actively supports Bill in his vision for a world in harmony and peace. Together we look toward ... A world of peace, health, and enlightenment. One World... One Breath
-- Gary Paruszkiewicz
Dear World Tai Chi & Qigong Day Supporters,
TOP STORY -- U.S. Department of Corrections recognizes WTCQD's work!
Working together ... with you ... as a global Tai Chi & Qigong family, we are creating ripples in the ocean of humanity that are echoing out to have huge positive impacts at all levels of society.
"Alone, we can do so little ... together ... so much."
-- Helen Keller
One World ... One Breath -- each year all across the planet, the global Tai Chi and Qigong family come together to create a worldwide wave of Qi, and health education to our planet, touching millions via media reports on our collective effort.
Succeeding is the coming together of all that is beautiful. -- Lao Tzu
On our end, here at WorldTaiChiDay.org, organizing the annual event of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day is only one of the myriad things we do to aid enthusiasts, teachers & organizations in promoting Tai Chi & Qigong usage worldwide--at all levels of society--to save society hundreds of billions of dollars in health cost saving, court, police, and penal rehab. costs, etc.
WorldTaiChiDay.org's Tai Chi & QG for Penal and Drug Rehabilitation becoming a Source Link for the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons for penal rehabilitation institutions and professionals is a BIG DEAL ... and when rehab. professionals click there they are directed, not to WTCQD Founders, Bill & Angela Wong Douglas ... BUT TO TEACHERS of all styles IN those penal facility's LOCAL COMMUNITIES. Also, Tai Chi & Qigong Teachers are given tips and ideas for working with courts and prisons.
We have contributed to the expanse of prison Tai Chi and Qigong programs from Texas to Australia, as well as helping teachers expand into public education programs, in healthcare, and to collaborate with government agencies to expand public access to local teachers' Tai Chi and/or Qigong classes. See below UK and Australian reports:
"Dear Sifu Douglas [and World Tai Chi & Qigong Day],
[With your help] I have been continuing our effort of sharing the benefits and wonders of ... Tai Chi & Qigong ... I've sent out a letter to the Oregon Department of Corrections and hope to get out more ... I'm hoping to have other [prison facilities] to embrace these practices." -- Willie, Allred Unit, Texas Penitentiary System
"Legal Services for Prisoners with Children recommended I contact you at World Tai Chi & Qigong Day for more information on Tai Chi [for penal rehab.]. -- Inmate at California State Prison at Corcoran
"I set up a tai chi website for [UK national] health service staff (NHS)http://www.networks.nhs.uk/nhs-networks/tai-chi-chi-kung-for-rehabilitation where I add information including [medical research info] you send through your WorldTaiChiDay.org Newsletters." -- Mark Peters, Kai Ming Association for Taijiquan, United Kingdom, www.kaiming.co.uk
"Using WorldTaiChiDay.org's Medical Research Library, I created a grant proposal that now enables seniors in our region of Australia to get FREE Tai Chi classes, made available to ALL seniors in our area." -- Rod Ferguson Australian Academy of Tai Chi & Qigong
WHY DO WE GIVE THIS ALL AWAY!? Because we believe in YOU! We believe that each of you who has experienced the benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong is an asset to your community, by your sharing that knowledge with others. Together, we have the potential of saving society hundreds of billions of dollars for years and years through health cost savings, police, courts, prisons, senior care, mental health care, etc. etc.
HOW DO WE KNOW THIS? A good Tai Chi, Qigong, and Meditation teacher will save society millions of dollars in health costs, via avoided surgeries and therapies and lifetimes of medication. The reason we know this, is because we had the good fortune of teaching Tai Chi Meditation classes for the University of Kansas Hospital Turning Point program for Hope & Healing--where results are methodically measured. Because our students are dealing with serious health challenges, they are constantly seeing physicians and getting monitored, blood pressure, chronic pain levels, BNP levels for heart disease, blood sugar levels for diabetes, etc. AND WE HAVE SEEN AMAZING RESULTS. Now, we don't think we're special. We think that all teachers who teach over a period of decades saves society millions of dollars ... its just that most of them don't know their own value, because they weren't in this clinical situation we are in, where we do know the dollar figures of savings--and they are enormous.
And this is only the tip of the iceberg of the ways we work tirelessly to promote Tai Chi and Qigong groups, associations and teachers worldwide. We help teachers understand how to expand their teaching into the community, and we work to bring the world to local teacher's via our free Events/Schools Directory. Did you know that Judges are beginning to sentence rage defendents to mind-body meditation like Tai Chi to change their behavior, rather than just jailing them over and over and over again? Learn about this and much more at our Tai Chi & Qigong for Penal and Drug Rehabilitation page that the U.S. Prison's Bureau features, and provides links to.

We participated in a program with the National Council on Aging, several universities, and the United States YMCA to educate them on Tai Chi and Qigong and to create opportunities for Tai Chi and Qigong teachers all across the nation--at this historic event organized by NQA Founder, Roger Janhke. I f you teach or study Tai Chi or Qigong at a local YMCA today, there is a strong likelihood that it was due to our early efforts at this historic conference of Tai Chi and Qigong pioneers and visionary organizations like the National Council on Aging and the American YMCA. I know, it seems like all this just happened by itself ... but some of us put our entire lives into making all this happen ... and together we can do so much more ... this is only the beginning!

Together, as a global Tai Chi and Qigong family, we are having amazing impacts in the world, as evidenced by the National Institute of Corrections website's citation of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day's work to integrate these arts into penal rehabilitation. We are listed as a source on penal rehabilitation for the U.S. Dept. of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons website--a result of years of work pioneering Tai Chi Meditation in penal rehabilitation from Kansas City's Jackson County Correctional System to California's Folsom Maximum Security Prison (where Judith Trethway and James Hecker created an amazing example to the world in their Folsom Tai Chi Chih program.)
ABOUT THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF CORRECTIONS
NIC is an agency within the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons. The Institute is headed by a Director appointed by the U.S. Attorney General. A 16-member Advisory Board, also appointed by the Attorney General, was established by the enabling legislation (Public Law 93-415) to provide policy direction to the Institute.
This U.S. Bureau of Prison's link to WorldTaiChiDay.org brings penal rehabilitation professionals to WorldTaiChiDay.org. On each page of our website, the "Schools Directory" is at the top of every page, directing our readers to local schools and groups worldwide. Why do we do all of this? Because Tai Chi and Qigong are changing the world.
Tai Chi and Qigong are profound additions to corporate wellness, education, senior care, modern healthcare, and can save society hundreds of billions of dollars in future spending. That is not hyperbole, that is a fact. When the healing impacts we get mentally, emotionally, and physically from the Traditional Chinese Medicine practices of Tai Chi and Qigong are all considered ... you find that vast savings in future health costs, prison costs, etc. could be saved by vastly expanding Tai Chi and Qigong into society at all levels.
When you think about it, it is crazy that every school in the world doesn't offer instruction in these tools, not just to students, but to teachers. The medical research on these tools is profound and mounting.
Tai Chi is about flexibility, and loosening enough to allow the Qi to flow through our relaxed forms. Tai Chi & Qigong's permeation into society will happen faster and faster as Tai Chi and Qigong teachers become flexible and innovative in creating programs focusing on health and healing and the calming meditative aspects of Tai Chi and Qigong--taught in science-based, fun, and approachable ways.
Public schools, prisons, etc. will NOT want to teach students how to become more dangerous and lethal, and corporate wellness departments in corporations are looking for effective meditation classes to reduce stress, improve health and mental acuity and creativity. Tai Chi and Qigong can be taught as highly effective mindfulness meditations, and can have profoundly positive effects. If Tai Chi can adapt to the times and offer more inclusive and welcoming classes accessible to all, including those dealing with physical challenges, it will speed up its integration into society at all levels.
Stress is what is killing most people ... and most people are learning about Tai Chi and Qigong from Dr. Oz and health journals as mounting medical research continues to come out on the benefits of these mind-body internal arts. Tai Chi and Qigong can be powerful meditative health practices ... a prescription for the future for this over-stressed constantly changing world.
If you have experienced Tai Chi and Qigong's benefits, then you know that the work we do together to organize World Tai Chi & Qigong Day each year--to spread awareness of these arts to millions worldwide--is a great gift we, together, offer the world ...
Thank you for being a healing part of history!
