THANK YOU for Being a Healing Part of History:
Exactly what are we doing by working together to create World Tai Chi & Qigong Day each year? Yes, we are creating a vision of global connection and cooperation that is profoundly moving ...
BUT, ON A PERSONAL LEVEL ... we are educating millions about Tai Chi and Qigong ... and we hear story after story about how seeing or attending a World Tai Chi & Qigong Day event got people started on their Tai Chi and Qigong journey ...
UNTIL, AS A TEACHER, YOU HAVE LOOKED INTO SOMEONE'S EYES ... someone who no longer needs drugs that hurt their immune system, or someone who no longer has to stick a needle in their belly every morning to balance their blood sugars ... you cannot know how overwhelmingly beautiful that experience is ... that you played a part in helping that human being fundamentally alter their life in a way that has liberated them in profound ways ...
The following Medical Research news will expand on this.
AND, when you participate in WTCQD each year, you contribute to this happening all over the planet. YOU are a healing force in this world ... and not by suffering for others, but by PLAYING WITH THE WORLD.
World Tai Chi & Qigong Day Hong Kong Organizer, Dr. Luk
Top World Martial Arts Expert Turns Her Energy to the Most Profound Aspect of Tai Chi and Qigong ... HEALING!
Aside from her accomplishments in the medical profession, Dr. Luk has been well respected in the martial artscommunity. She studied Seven Star Praying Mantis and other martial arts from the most renowned Praying Mantis Grandmaster Chen Zhen Yi at age 6. By 9, she had a demonstration at a major martial art exhibition in Macau. In college, she co-founded a collegiate Chinese martial art club and taught Praying Mantis and Tai Chi. After she established her private practice and gave birth to her daughter, with her husband's support, she re-emerged in the martial arts arena and took gold medals in the Hong Kong Traditional Wushu Open in 1990. In 1991, she participated in the first International Shaolin and Wushu Festival in Zhengzhou, China and won first places in a Tai Chi bare hand form and a Tai Chi weapon form. She continued to compete at the Hong Kong Elite Chinese Martial Art Tournament and won gold medals in three consecutive years in her early 40's. She has since retired from competition, but has concentrated on teaching and coached a few medalists. She has served as a head judge for international tournaments. She founded a Wushu coach association in Hong Kong and published a Wushu journal.
During the peak of her competition career, Luk's interest of martial arts started to migrate from techniques and skills to how martial arts influences human body. She started to concentrate on the nurturing aspect of martial arts. She began to teach Qigong as well as research it. She authored articles on martial arts and health. Qigong is an internal nourishing exercise.
Dr. Luk said that a practitioner has to go deep inside his own body to find balance and harmony.

BREAKING MEDICAL NEWS: EXCITING new study on Tai Chi for Arthritis should be seen by EVERYONE who has ANY TYPE of arthritis. See article further down in newsletter for details and links.

As we know, arthritis drug treatments may focus on reducing immune function with the goal of reducing or stopping chronic inflammation, to lessen or eliminate joint damage. A 2013 study showed that Mindfulness meditative exercises could reduce inflammation.
Tai Chi and Qigong can be taught as mindfulness meditative exercises, and in fact, Sitting Qigong can be a powerful addition to Tai Chi and Qigong movement practices, further expanding the non-inflammatory rate of practitioners.
Many teachers have seen great results in students dealing with rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, including Sifu Paul Lam of Sydney, Australia who has helped expand Tai Chi use into arthritis care health institutions.
In our Kansas City classes one student, named Mary, began Tai Chi Meditation classes many years ago with braces on her arms, and in her words "I would have ended up in a care facility, because I was losing my ability to move, had I not walked into this Tai Chi Meditation class."
Today, Mary no longer wears arm braces, and moves better than most people her age, and one would never suspect she has arthritis--as she has since taught Tai Chi through various programs including the University of Kansas Hospital Tai Chi Meditation Program. And other students with various chronic pain conditions have reduced or eliminated needs for pain meds--as reflected by emerging medical research.
One benefit of Tai Chi and Qigong combined with Mindfulness Meditation, Sitting Qigong or other meditations, is that it relieves chronic stress, and when stress is lessened, muscle tension is lessened, resulting in less pressure on knees and joints. When muscles are tight, they are shorter, and they squeeze joints together more tightly.
So these new research reports, cited in the article on Tai Chi and Arthritis below, show that Tai Chi (modified for RA patients) can provide weight-bearing exercise for people with arthritis (with no joint inflammation), and when taught as mindfulness meditative exercises can reduce inflammation.
If you or a loved one has arthritis and begins a Tai Chi - Qigong - Mindfulness Meditative class BE SURE TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR, and share the medical research we provide you in the below article and at WorldTaiChiDay.org's free Medical Research Library, because you may find less need for medications. Don't self prescribe, engage your doctor in this process.
We often post articles on "Food as Medicine" in our WorldTaiChiDay.org Newsletters, as food/herbology is one of the 3 pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine. So, food and diet can help reduce inflammation as well, according to The Arthritis Foundation.
Less drugs could mean a stronger immune system, since RA drugs often lessen immune function to lessen inflammation. We want to maximize natural solutions like Tai Chi, Qigong, and Meditation ... so that we can minimize side-effects of drug therapies. We may still need drugs, but if we can lessen the need for them in natural ways, all the better. Always make changes in consultation with your physician--BUT, also engage in educating your physician about Tai Chi and Qigong. Find links and details on this exciting research in article further down in newsletter.
Have a friend or loved one with Arthritis? Be kind to them. Forward them our World Tai Chi Day Newsletters.

SAFETY FIRST REMINDER:
If your local coming WTCQD 2015 event involves a "teach-in" where you show the crowd a few moves of Tai Chi or Qigong to relax and so they can be part of the world wave ... KEEP IT FUN, LIGHT AND EASY. Many come to TC and QG because of health research they are reading, and may be dealing with mobility issues. DO NOT GET NEW PEOPLE TO DO CHALLENGING TAI CHI OR QG MOVES --
KEEP IT LIGHT, EASY AND FUN FOR EVERYONE,
when you do the inclusive part of your event.
