Dear World Tai Chi & Qigong Day supporters,
TAI CHI in MEDICINE: Tai Chi teacher, Abraham Orwitz asked us "How many hospitals now offer Tai Chi programs as therapy, treatment, or support?" We didn't know, so we looked into it. See below article, which also offers more free WorldTaiChiDay.org resources to help you get your local hospitals to offer Tai Chi to patients.
TAI CHI as a MEDICAL MARVEL (NIH STUDY): Did you know that Tai Chi improves balance in ways that no other conventional physiotherapy program does, according to a National Institutes of Health (NIH) study? This adds to the mountain of emerging research showing that Tai Chi and Qigong are NOT just another exercise, but a high level bio-feedback, bio-organizing, high science of mind-body health. See our free WorldTaiChiDay.org Medical Research Library.
The NIH study's essential point in their conclusion is that Tai Chi's enhancement of self-efficacy is its most powerful component. When we play Tai Chi regularly, we feel more at home in our bodies yes, but also in our mind, heart, and world. This is a powerful antidote to the disorientation most people feel in a world changing so incredibly fast these days:
NIH STUDY CONCLUSIONS: The impact of supervised Tai Chi on fall prevention can not be explained by a differential effect on balance, gait and fear of falling. It appeared to be related to an increase of general self-efficacy, a phenomenon which is not seen in the conventional physiotherapy program.
THANK YOU! One thing we'd like to note, is that many retailers are now selling versions of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day T-Shirts--which is an indicator of just how global this event has become.. However, the HUGE DIFFERENCE with our Official WTCQD T-Shirts, is that when you purchase our official t-shirts you are contributing to our ongoing year round work of connecting the global family that has become World Tai Chi & Qigong Day.
Together we can spread awareness of Tai Chi & Qigong for a healthier community & world. Thanks so much for your support each year!

GLOBAL NEWS:
And also an AMAZING TESTIMONIAL about how YOUR PARTICIPATION in World Tai Chi & Qigong Day is changing people's lives and all those they touch, with a recent contribution from David Silver of YMAA Publications.
We are aware that this year's World Tai Chi & Qigong Day (WTCQD) falls on ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand, a war memorial and contemplation day. Therefore some groups in those nations plan to hold their WTCQD events later in the day, or the day prior to, or the day following, WTCQD 2015. Like Tai Chi, WTCQD celebrations can be flexible around national holidays and holy days.

AN AMAZING WTCQD STORY: Remember the extraordinary testimonial of Linda Bowers, and how attending a World Tai Chi & Qigong Day event got her started in Tai Chi and Qigong, and how it changed her life, and helped her heal personally ... but then also she eventually taught Tai Chi at a local college and in a Kansas women's penitentiary, and certified two inmates as Tai Chi and Qigong teachers, perhaps changing their lives forever, and changing the lives of all those they might touch with their teaching throughout their lives?
Well, here's another amazing story. We all know about YMAA books and DVDs on Tai Chi and Qigong, and many are familiar with an integral part of YMAA productions, Tai Chi author David Silver, who teaches Tai Chi, and edits Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming's books. Did you know that when David stumbled across the very first World Tai Chi Day event many years ago, that is what propelled him into beginning his training that has resulted in his touching the lives of people all over the world. See David's story in his own words below:
"In the 90s, I was living in Kansas City and playing drums
with a local band. One day I was on a morning walk and I
happened to stumble upon the very first World Tai Chi &
Qigong Day event.
I had been reading about qigong for a few years and knew
what Tai Chi was, but I was shocked to see this group of
Tai Chi players peacefully moving in unison on the lawn
of my local art museum! In those days, it was rare to see
Tai Chi or Qigong anywhere outside of Chinatown.
I was so pleasantly surprised to see others interested in the
subject and felt optimistic that the arts might become
more mainstream one day. That experience influenced me
to make the internal arts a part of my life.
Now, 17 years later I am a teacher myself and have
passed the arts on to people during thousands of classes.
My 'day job' is publishing instructional Tai Chi and
Qigong books and videos at YMAA.com, and these have
reached millions of people. One thing truly leads to another.
I think its so important for people to see Tai Chi and
Qigong out in public, so the seed can be planted for
others to one day experience the arts themselves."

Just reported to us by Daniel Rombach of Germany, at http://taichi.blog.de/ that WTCQD events will occur in 2015 throughout Germany, and went on to say: The World Tai Chi and Qigong Day (WTCQD) takes place in April since 1999 on the last Saturday. The idea for the Tai Chi Day had Bill Douglas, who started the first Internet campaigns. The International World Tai Chi and Qigong Day had its origin in 1998 to a Tai Chi Festival in Kansas City, Missouri, United States. The event was a great success with 200 visitors. From the CNN News reported this first event, which led to an influx of visitors in the following year. The World Tai Chi Day was born. Public events this year on Saturday the 25th April 2015 held worldwide. Tai Chi and Qi Gong practitioners come together and it offers the opportunity to exchange ideas.Interested and spectators are welcome, can make first contacts and information about the form. Local events are organized by Tai Chi / Qigong clubs and schools and are competent contact person. In most cases, the possibility has to participate in introductory courses. World Tai Chi and Qigong Day in Germany In Germany the WTCQD arrived a long time ago and every year find many meetings in different cities. The following is a certainly incomplete listing of events in Germany. It also included events which were held in 2014 and will probably be held again this year. Please check with local schools and clubs. Some meeting did not take place in the rain. Many Tai Chi schools also carry an "open door" through. Motto of the WTCQD: One earth - one breath
I so wish that my father was alive to see this ... Germans and Americans, Chinese and Japanese, Africans and French, Israelis and Egyptians, all coming together each year as a global Tai Chi and Qigong family ... to play together. What a beautiful world we are creating together. This newsletter is in honor of my father, Bill, and of all our fathers all around the world. We are creating the world of their dreams ... a world of calm and peace. One World ... One Breath.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For your part in making this global phenomenon happen year after year. It has been such an honor creating this together with you all around the world. |
