Dear World Tai Chi & Qigong Day supporters,

Folks, we just have to say we love you all. Angie and I are so proud of what we, you and us, have created together. What a beautiful world it becomes when we are sharing Tai Chi and Qigong's calming and peaceful nature throughout the world. This newsletter will AMAZE YOU, and leave you so proud of what we are doing together ... a global Tai Chi and Qigong family.

World Tai Chi & Qigong Day (WTCQD videos and links have exploded across Youtube and Google in numbers that will
BLOW YOUR MIND.   Read on at article titled:
"Tai Chi & Qigong are permeating popular culture."

JUST IN:  An Amazing WTCQD development in Pakistan. Mrs.Falak Arshad of Sialkot, Pakistan has organized a huge Tai Chi and Qigong Camp, which they have called World Tai Chi & Qigong Day Camp, teaching local children the arts of Tai Chi and Qigong. See below photos.

We were so moved that we responded to Falak with this:

Dear Falak,

Your photos are BEAUTIFUL. What a powerful
event you created. WOW!

Are you teaching all these children Tai Chi
and Qigong? That is beautiful. And the fact
that you did it in honor of World Tai Chi &
Qigong Day is just so incredibly moving to
us here at WorldTaiChiDay.org.

When we see the beautiful faces of the
children we are so blessed to have touched
through our organizing efforts of these 17
years ... it is moving beyond words.

Falak, thank you for your work. Your work
in Pakistan is an example to the world of
Tai Chi and Qigong around the globe.

Yours in Qi,

Bill and Angela Wong-Douglas,
Co-Founders of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day

Pakistan participated in WTCQD for the first time in 2014. A school teacher, Mrs. Falak Arshad in Sialkot, Pakistan is the General Secretary for DMAA, and her students will participate in the global wave of Qi, this year on World Tai Chi & Qigong Day.

IN THE NEWS!

UK's Daily Mail reports that the Duchess of Cornwall was all smiles as she watched a Tai Chi demonstration at a cancer support center in Newcastle this week.  The Daily Mail reported, "After watching the t'ai chi demonstration, Camilla, 67, who was glamorous in a cream suit, toured the centre chatting to patients." This follows on the heels of last year's report by the UK Mail, "1st Lady Michelle Obama Tries Her Hand at Tai Chi." (click link for Youtube video)

Also in. We just got this exciting message from Italian World Tai Chi Day & Qigong Day organizer Nello Mauro, who also organizes WTCQD events in Belgium and Luxembourg. This year's 2015 WTCQD event, they will hold it at the UNESCO Heritage Centre on Mt. Etne, on the east coast of Sicily on the Mediterranean.

(See top of newsletter image.)

This is very exciting and fitting for a WTCQD event, because UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization whose goal is promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture. Sounds like WTCQD, doesn't it? We educate the public about the science of Tai Chi and Qigong which were gifts to the world from Chinese culture, and now are connecting people in over 80 nations each year via our annual World Tai Chi & Qigong Day celebrations.

This isn't the first time WTCQD events have been held at momentous institutions. The Oslo, Norway World Tai Chi & Qigong Day organizers held an event at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, and Carolyn Perkins of Manhattan, New York, pulled off the mammoth task of holding a WTCQD event at the United Nations Building.

ON ORGANIZING "YOUR" 2015 WTCQD EVENT:

We've been getting alot of calls and emails asking, "I'm organizing a WTCQD event in my city for the first time. What format do you follow at your WTCQD events?"  We offer a short article in this E-zine edition that answers that question. See article further down.

MEDICAL RESEARCH: Tai Chi & Qigong
"Tai Chi to Save Your Life"
Medical Tai Chi

By learning very simple techniques, one can gain access to self-healing. Many modern studies show how Tai Chi and Qi Gong can improve mobility and ease pain in the body, enhance the immune system by increasing ATP, oxygen capacity, and white blood cell counts, and initiate the release of serotonin and other neuro-endocrine regulating chemicals in the body, thus eliminating depression, anxiety, and other negative emotional states ...

What Format Do World Tai Chi & Qigong Day Events Follow? I'm organizing my 1st event.

QUESTION: I'm holding an outdoor event, what if it rains?

ANSWER: Here in Kansas City we just take our chances :-)

We've done it in the rain. Might tell people to bring parkas just in case.  We had a UK group do Tai Chi one year while holding umbrellas in one hand :-)

World Tai Chi Day event in

Omsk, Russia

QUESTION: What format do World Tai Chi & Qigong Day events follow?  Are they all the same?

ANSWER: Generally groups will have a speaker or speakers talk about the world coming together.  Some read the Opening Statement we offer in several languages to open their events.

You can find our WTCQD "Opening Statement" in several languages, by clicking here (then scroll down). Also, below are videos of the Opening Statement being read at WTCQD events in several nations, multi-languages.

After that it varies from city to city, but in KC we ask all the present instructors to lead the entire group in short qigong exercises. We then teach everyone a short form that we created for hospitals, that is only about 7 movements, and have everyone attending, including school's of other styles, participate at 10 am with the world wave.

SAFETY TIP!  Many coming to Tai Chi and Qigong these days are doing so because of medical research, and have chronic health issues. IT IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT THAT WHEN INVITING PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR EVENT, THAT YOU DO NOT ASK NEWBIES TO DO ANYTHING THAT IS NOT GENTLE AND ACCESSIBLE TO ALL PEOPLE.

DO NO HARM!  KEEP IT GENTLE AND FUN!

Then, we invite all attending teachers and their students to do exhibitions of their long forms while others watch.

The below video offers ideas of how you might describe World Tai Chi & Qigong Day's worldwide wave of events, and allow you to see what an event might look like, and it also has the "Opening Statement" mentioned above.

Hope that helps.

Bill Douglas, World Tai Chi & Qigong Day Founder

Tai Chi & Qigong in the Media
& Popular Culture!

Italian Media on WTCQD

This week Tai Chi and Qigong were in the news!  Medical Daily reports, Mind-Body Exercises Prevent Loss Of Balance And Falls, Rivaling Physical Fitness. NPR (National Public Radio [USA])'s report, "Fight Parkinson's: Exercise May Be The Best Therapy," cites Tai Chi as one of the Parkinson's benefiting therapies. Which jives with the recent New England Journal of Medicine report on Tai Chi as an effective Parkinson's therapy, according to the latest research.

Can Tai Chi & Qigong Help the World Change?!

BMW Has a Newfangled Idea
BMW Has a Newfangled Idea

BMW just released an electric car, built with wind energy. Our technology is changing faster than our consciousness can.

Stanford University research shows that the entire world can run on solar, wind, and hydro-electric energy, a complete green energy economy that the report shows will actually create new jobs and boost the global economy ... not to mention, dramatically reduce green house gasses.

The technology is there to change. What remains is the need for our minds to un-grip from old ways, and open to a new green economy, which would be great for our grandchildren and their world they will inherit from us.

The loosening meditations of Tai Chi and Qigong not only can loosen our physical body, but our minds and hearts. to enable us to be more comfortable with change, and to flow into it in a healthy way, rather than gripping onto the old out of habit.

This could be a powerful tool for the modern human being to have in these changing times.

Tai Chi & Qigong Teacher SAFETY Tip!

Many Tai Chi and Qigong teachers are finding that their student base are largely people who have read about the Medical Benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong.

A WORD OF CAUTION.

Many of these new students are dealing with the health challenges that Tai Chi and Qigong research are proving they can help with. So, this has an impact on how we teach. If Tai Chi and Qigong teachers had a Hippocratic Oath, it too would begin with "DO NO HARM.".

This new generation of Tai Chi and Qigong seekers may have physical issues that may limit their ability to do Tai Chi and Qigong the way other students do, so we encourage teachers to be conscious of that.

What we tell our students at all our classes, but constantly in our hospital classes, is: "Tai Chi and Qigong should NEVER HURT!" And if it does, to talk to the teacher so we can help them adjust and modify their movements.

For teachers teaching primarily combat and athletic Tai Chi or Qigong, who may not really be interested in a more remedial form of  Tai Chi and Qigong may consider referring them to another teacher that does.

We want to obey our primary duty to DO NO HARM.

If you are unfamiliar with the emerging research on Tai Chi and Qigong, as a teacher, you may want to learn more. WorldTaiChiDay.org has created a free public service used by teachers, governments, and health professionals worldwide.

TAI CHI & IMMUNE SYSTEM:
In their randomized-control-trial study, Tai Chi alone was found to increase participants' immunity to varicella as much as the vaccine typically produces in 30- to 40-year-old adults, and Tai Chi combined with the vaccine produced a significantly higher level of immunity, about a 40 percent increase, over that produced by the vaccine alone. The study further showed that the Tai Chi group's rate of increase in immunity over the course of the 25-week study was double that of the control group
