See below Friends of Nancy Fundraiser, and how that connects with the origins of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day.
Dear World Tai Chi & Qigong Day supporters,
But first ... years ago, Angie and I had the honor of being part of a National Council on Aging panel of teachers and masters from around the US, brought together by Roger Jahnke and the NCA to create a tai chi efficacy guide for aging professionals to aid in their creation of tai chi classes in senior centers and programs across the country. Those teachers who've been invited to start tai chi and qigong classes in senior centers over the last years may be enjoying the fruits of our work so long ago. Thank you Roger.
All the teachers on this panel were each challenged to come up with one "essential benefit of Tai Chi" to list in the guide. I'll never forget how one of the Chinese teachers on the panel, stunned everyone by stating a deep truth about the internal arts, when he said, "The sense of community one gets in a group is a powerful part of Tai Chi." We all feel that group Qi in our classes.
As WTCQD 2013 comes nearer, we feel an anticipation of this building global wave to be begun in 38 days by our friends in the earliest time zone of New Zealand, that will be passed on by friends in 70 nations, through all our cities ... that feeling of connection ... is a feeling all of humanity yearns for.
We will be, together, an example for the world.

One world ... one breath.
Bill Douglas & Angela Wong Douglas, founders of World Tai Chi & QG Day

As World Tai Chi & Qigong Day 2013 rapidly approaches, an important reminder. WTCQD events are open to the public. Because many attendees come because of medical and health research they've read, there may be attendees of many various health conditions.
FOR THE PARTICIPATORY PART OF OUR EVENTS, let's keep the movements very simple, very easy, very gentle, soothing, and relaxing. Of course advanced groups can do their entire forms or demonstrations, but for the new people wanting to be part of the worldwide wave ... be SURE to keep the group participatory part at 10 am gentle and accessible to all to be a part of. Tell newbies to be gentle with themselves and self aware, and that nothing should "hurt."

FRIENDS OF NANCY FUND DRIVE: About 20 years ago, World Tai Chi & Qigong Day founder, Bill Douglas, attended a personal growth seminar in Colorado's Rocky Mountains in which one of the presenters challenged Bill to ponder the idea or question of "What role does Tai Chi want to play in the world?" It sounded very odd at the time, but got the mind spinning.
One of the other members of this creative team that weekend, challenged Bill with this question, "Bill, have you ever thought of trying to get people to do Tai Chi, just because it's fun to do?"
These two questions started wheels turning that evolved into the idea that sparked the global health education event the world now knows as World Tai Chi & Qigong Day. Part of that network of creative minds was Nancy Nelson. Nancy is in severe crisis with cancer. Friends of Nancy are doing a fundraiser to help her through her journey. Bill & Angela Wong-Douglas have donated to this cause, and invite you to do so as well to acknowledge this Colorado collective's contribution to the formation of our global event.

Nancy and the Colorado crew worked in Hawaii after planting the WTCQD seeds at that event in Colorado. Below is a short video preview of a coming documentary "At the End of the Day" filmed in Hawaii, which opens with WTCQD Founder, Bill Douglas, on a telephone interview with BBC World Radio in Ecuador on World Tai Chi & Qigong Day of that year. This documentary is being produced by another Friend of Nancy.

Angie and I are sitting on a big pile of Official T-Shirts that have not been ordered yet.

We just happened to see this message on a tai chi page on Facebook:
"Last year all the WTCQD t-shirts
were sold out at the April event.
Can you purchase them beforehand?"

-- Cynthia
YES, YOU CAN!  There are so many out there celebrating WTCQD who want official t-shirts, which are what supports our work while providing people with a beautiful and meaningful piece of history they can wear, BUT THEY DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GET THEM.

Dear Angela &,

I think this is the 7th shirt I've ordered since 2005. After class, my wife and I will trade our school shirt for a World Tai Chi Day shirt as we go about our day.

The shirts are a great conversation starter and we get to share the good news about Tai Chi and Qigong with people we meet.

Best regards,

Hi Angela,

I like the idea of wearing the [Official WTCQD] t-shirts on one Saturday every month ... I have been attending World Tai Chi & Qigong Day events since 2000 ( as an attendee to watch my Teacher, Tseng "Tom" Wang, in Nashville, until 2008, then as a host in Murfreesboro where I've taught for the past 5 years.)
How can we ever thank Bill enough for this wonderful idea. It was truly a gift to us all! And thank you, Angela, for all you do. You guys are amazing!

My students were asking me about the shirts last night.

Once again, Thank you for all your hard work.

Yours in Taijiquan,

Bret, Murfreesboro, Tennessee

Did you know that research shows Tai Chi can improve your DNA, which is the very foundation of immune function, and longevity of life and health.
How Stress Affects Our Telomeres (Chromosome / DNA)
How Stress Affects Our Telomeres (Chromosome / DNA)
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines "nanotechnology" as: the science of manipulating materials on an atomic or molecular scale.
The daily stress we all collect is the
of "static" in the energy body that is the template of our physical being. Tai Chi & Qigong in study after study prove themselves to be a profoundly effective stress relief technology. Research shows that this positively alters our DNA, improving our cell replication process, dramatically enhancing immune function.
These thousands of years old Internal Arts are increasingly proving themselves to be a high science we are only beginning to understand.
When we sit in Qigong meditation, or move in Moving Qigong, and Tai Chi forms we are at the cutting edge of a new science of mind-body integration. We don't have to mentalize it, we only need to relax and flow, again and again releasing our tight grip on our bodies, our hearts and our minds.
As practitioners and teachers of these high sciences who, through World Tai Chi & Qigong Day's global health education event, share these arts and sciences with others, we contribute our verse to the progression of humanity in a profound way that we are only beginning to understand in a scientific way.
See's Medical Research Library for research on Tai Chi and DNA improvement, and nearly 100 other health issues Tai Chi and Qigong help with!

World Tai Chi & Qigong Day (WTCQD), April 27

Did you know that Bill Douglas, founder of WTCQD, traces its beginning to an early NQA Convention? He and his wife Angela Wong Douglas launched what is now a 15 year tradition of WTCQD worldwide. Recognized by the United Nations, WTCQD occurs in 70+ countries, 50 states of the union, and is a staple for Qi cultivation everywhere. On the last Saturday in April of each year, Qi is literally and metaphorically sent around the globe, "One World...One Breath".For more information.
The NQA heartily supports this effort. Please organize a WTCQD event of your own, or, as is the case for most of you, continue your own local events. Maximize your resources by a mutual affiliation! Both the NQA and World Tai Chi Day have lots of resources to help you maximize media attention. Contact Lamont Thomas for NQA resources. And here are the links for your World Tai Chi Organizing Kits and Media Kits. The World Tai Chi Day also has fantastic T-shirts. Order here.
