HUGE BREAKING MEDICAL RESEARCH STORY:
Stroke Survivors get more benefit from Tai Chi than from Medicare Fitness Program: Time for Medicare to cover Tai Chi?
THANK YOU to the National Qigong Association for your ongoing partnership with WTCQD events worldwide!
Read below message on WTCQD from the NQA President
Did you know China's International News Agency, Xinhua News, covered Brazil's World Tai Chi & Qigong Day?
See article below
Typo in past newsletters: We've just been alerted to the fact that we had a typo in the "If you have questions about Official T-shirts" contact. It should have read contact: angelaorders@aol.com
Dear World Tai Chi & Qigong Day supporters,
Tai Chi and Qigong enthusiasts, teachers, schools and organizations worldwide who have come together every year on the last Saturday of April to create the mass media public education event known as World Tai Chi & Qigong Day ... have provided the entire world with a vision of health & healing.
Together, we are helping to create a healthier, calmer, and clearer world, BUT WE ALSO MAY BE HELPING THE GLOBAL ECONOMY AS WELL.
This week a huge medical research story broke (see below Medical Research article and our #1 google rated WTCQD Medical Research Library).
The American Heart Association just released a report on research presented to the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference 2013. It stated that Tai Chi was more effective in fall prevention for stroke survivors, than a control group using only the U.S. Medicare covered SilverSneakers Program.
THIS IS A HUGE FINDING. It is becoming increasingly apparent that Tai Chi and Qigong could save national healthcare systems hundreds of billions, if not trillions in avoided future health expenditures. Past research at UCLA found that Tai Chi boosted the immune function in seniors by nearly 50%. A University of Miami School of Medicine study found that Tai Chi reduced ADHD symptoms in teenagers. A recent study we reported in our WorldTaiChiDay.org Ezine Magazine Newsletters, and posted in our globally used Medical Research Library found that Qigong improved the lives of breast cancer patients.
There may be a day when Medicare and then health insurance covers Tai Chi and Qigong, making them accessible to entire nation's populations. When millions more people are practicing these tools, medical research shows that it will save national health systems hundreds of billions, if not trillions, of dollars in avoided future health costs.
Years ago, Australian Tai Chi teacher, Rod Ferguson, reported to us that he'd used our Medical Research Library to create a proposal showing his local Australian State's government's senior program that Tai Chi practice could save their state a great deal of money in avoided future health costs. The result: His state now sponsors Tai Chi programs for all seniors in his state.
15 years ago, two surgeons attending my Tai Chi and Qigong classes were stunned to see their high blood pressure normalize after just a few weeks of classes. They forced their general practitioner to write a prescription for Tai Chi and Qigong for their hypertension in the hope that their insurance carrier would cover their classes. 15 years later, few insurance carriers cover Tai Chi and Qigong, even in the face of overwhelming research showing they should. Medicare is yet to cover Tai Chi and Qigong in spite of the same overwhelming research that it would save substantial health costs to do so.
WorldTaiChiDay.org, working with Tai Chi and Qigong enthusiasts, schools, and organizations like the National Qigong Association, the World Qigong Congress, and others worldwide, has dramatically expanded awareness of Tai Chi and Qigong benefits and their potential to society.
Our annual organizing of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day has educated millions worldwide of these benefits.
"Alone we can do so little ... together ... so much."
Thank you all for being part of this annual global wave of goodwill and health and healing educational events known worldwide as World Tai Chi & Qigong Day.
One World ... One Breath.
Sincerely,
Bill Douglas and Angela Wong Douglas

Thoughts for World Tai Chi Qigong Day 2013 from Mark R. Reinhart - President
National Qigong Association
It's hard to imagine that 2013 marks the 15th year World Tai Chi & Qigong Day has been celebrated now throughout the entire planet! What started as I vision in the heart and mind of Bill Douglas, has blossomed into an event celebrated around the world as humanity shares in the healing power of Tai Chi and Qigong. The simply and eclectic nature of people gathering together to share breath and movement transcends any form of political, religious, ethnic, or socio-economic distinction. As a matter of fact, WTCQD is a perfect way to break down those imaginary boundaries which all too often form the walls that separate humanity.
To move and breathe in harmony with others is a profound simplicity that has to be experienced to be truly understood and appreciated. The styles and systems of Tai Chi and Qigong are as varied as the people who practice them. But regardless of the style or system, the foundational thread of the principles set forth by the ancients unite all forms. In much the same way, music has the basic structure of sound and rhythm from which infinite permutations of styles and interpretations can result. Do Tai Chi and Qigong share the distinction with music of being a 'universal language'? I'd like to think so. Realigning with the wisdom of nature has been at the heart of all forms of the Ancient Arts since the beginning.
The National Qigong Association (NQA) has always walked hand-in-hand with WTCQD from the early days when one of the NQA's founders Dr. Roger Jahnke suggested to Bill to include Qigong into what was then titled World Tai Chi Day. It was a natural. Since then the mission of spreading the word about the benefits of the Chinese Energetic arts, bei it Tai Chi or Qigong, has evolved into a wave spreading around the world in an exponential fashion.
In this day and age, there is new means of communication which, while bringing the world closer together runs the risk of doing it in a less personal way. In my humble opinion, there will never be a substitute for the person to person sharing of energy where communication on all levels can occur honestly and genuinely. So let us all gather together on the last Saturday in April to once again celebrate WTCQD. We at the NQA seek to keep the energy flowing throughout the year via our annual conference, an ever increasing number of Regional Events around the country, and NQA Day on the first Saturday of October.
Please join us, Bill, Angela and the NQA, as we Cultivate Wisdom, Health and Peace by sharing One World... One Breath.
Blessings, Balance, and Abundant Qi

THIS IS BIG NEWS ...
Tai Chi exercise may reduce falls in adult stroke survivors
Abstract: P362
Tai Chi may reduce falls among adult stroke survivors, according to research presented at the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference 2013.
Compared to survivors receiving usual care or participating in a national fitness program for Medicare-eligible adults called SilverSneakers®, those practicing Tai Chi had the fewest falls.

WorldTaiChiDay.org Comment: This is an indicator that Medicare coverage of Tai Chi and Qigong could be just around the corner, and that is good news for US citizens. WHY? Because it will cut our national health costs dramatically. Australian government programs have been paying for Tai Chi programs for Australian seniors, and also for COPD patients as a way to cut health costs.
This is the wave of the future.
In coming months WorldTaiChiDay.org plans to launch a White House Petition in the hope of getting the 25,000 signitures required to get to the President's desk a suggestion to make Tai Chi and Qigong a Medicare covered program. This will be a great boon to Tai Chi and Qigong teachers, and to the seniors in their communities, and to the local and national economy.
We'll keep you posted on when we launch this petition drive. In the meantime, please think of ways you can help spread it through the Tai Chi and Qigong community, as when we launch it there is only a short time frame to get the required signitures.

Xinhua, China International News Agency, Covered Brazil's World Tai Chi & Qigong Day
| World Tai Chi & Qigong Day - Dia Mundial de Tai Chi Covered by Brazilian National Television |
When the Brazilian Government held its 50th Anniversary Celebration for its Capital, Brasilia, it made World Tai Chi & Qigong Day part of its national celebration events.
Their World Tai Chi & Qigong Day event was covered by China's famed international News Agency, Xinhua.
Brazil's capital celebrated Saturday the World Tai Chi and Qigong Day ... counting on the presence of the date's founders, Bill Douglas and his wife Angela Wong Douglas.
"We have known the Brazilians for several years, because they send photos, videos and news coverage of their events. But this is the first time we have met all face to face and it is being a very beautiful experience," said Bill in an interview to Xinhua during the event.
The ... Tai Chi Day celebration in Brasilia presented very different scenery to the first event, when only about 30 people attended the activities at the Square of Universal Harmony. This time, organizers estimate that about a thousand people have participated in the party.
China-born Moo Shong Woo, known to his pupils and admirers as Master Woo, has introduced Tai Chi practice in Brasilia 36 years ago. He arrive in Brazil in 1961 and lives in the country's capital since 1968.
About 150 people of all ages attend daily Tai Chi classes given by him and his pupils, who became teachers themselves.
