Camp Improvements

Next time you go to Camp Boddie you will see newly painted buildings. Two showers, the Rawl Building, Staff Rec Center, and eventually the Health Lodge will be painted. As buildings need new roofs we are converting over to metal to help reduce future maintenance. The council has purchased 755 new tents for this coming summer.

We finally have the required permits to start building the Nick Boddie Aquatic Center at Camp Charles. We have signed a contract to build the Big Rock Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament Pirate Ship at Camp Sam Hatcher and do a $30,000 renovation of the showers at Camp Sam Hatcher so that parents camping in the pirate ship will feel comfortable using the bathroom and shower facilities. All of our camps are being equipped to be Cub Scout parent friendly as fast as we have funding to do so.

If you are interested in investing in a Cub Scout or Boy Scout related project at one of our camps, please let me know.

Camp Boddie Summer Camp

We are thinking and planning for the Camp Boddie Summer Camp. Camp Director Matt Lococo stated the Backwoods Program for older Scouts will be restored to its original challenging programs with lots of events not experienced in the normal camp program. We are going to add stand up paddle boarding to the Camp Boddie Aquatics program.

This year you will be able to sign up and pay for twilight activities on line. Once you purchase the tickets there will be no refund but opportunities will be provided for you to sell them to other troops wanting to participate.

If you are considering applying to work at summer camp this summer, now is the time to apply. Do not hesitate. We are concentrating on hiring more college and adult staff.

You may notice that there is an increase in fees to attend Camp Boddie summer camp. Whether you are in council or out of council and have attended Camp Boddie in the last two years, there will be no increase in fees if you have attended Camp Boddie Summer Camp in 2012 or 2013. We want to reward those units who have remained loyal to the Camp Boddie.

Every year we work to try to make our summer camp program more exciting than the year before. Troops from all over the country now come to Camp Boddie. Come find out why!!!

 Yours in Scouting spirit,

Ray

Update on New Features - MyScoutingTools.org   FleurD Lis
MyScoutingTools empowers volunteers to manage virtually all aspects of their programs and unit information. For the first time, unit and district Key 3 (district chair, district commissioner, and district executive) were able to directly update BSA membership records in the field. Registered adults were also able to update their own profile information as well as view their training, access calendars, announcements, and print their membership cards.

BSA To Use One Oath and Law For All Scouting Programs

Because it will take time to transition into this new approach, the changes are not immediate.

The following Cub Scout changes will take effect in mid-2015.

* Adopt the Scout Oath and Law for use in the Cub Scout program, retiring the Cub Scout Promise.

* Revise the Core Values of Cub Scouts to align exactly with the 12 points of the Scout Law.

* Retire "Law of the Pack," but keep the concept of "Akela" as leader.

* Maintain the current Cub Scout motto, sign, salute, and handshake.

A New Concept: The Unit Membership Chair!

Units that have membership growth and retention have three key components: a strong, vibrant Scouting program; engaged volunteers; and someone on the unit committee who is responsible for membership. The unit membership chair is the unit committee member who will focus on membership growth and retention of the unit. This new position is similar to the district or council membership chair who is responsible for growth in the district or the council.
