MaxNotes, Volume 1
MAXNOTES VOLUME ONE:
POPULATION, HOUSEHOLD,
AND EMPLOYMENT FORECASTS

Why should we care about population or employment forecasts in a long-range transportation plan?

Where and how the region grows will affect where and how the region travels. For example:
  • By 2040, the Baltimore region's population is expected to surpass 3 million people for the first time;
  • Beginning in January 2011, 10,000 Americans will turn 65 years old each day of the year for the next 19 years.
To accommodate changes in population and in the kinds of employment opportunities available to the workforce, the region will need a transportation system that provides effective options for everyone.

Learn more about how the BRTB forecasts changes in population, workforce and more in the first issue of the MaxNotes brief.
