BALTIMORE, MD (June 19, 2014) - The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) will accept public comments for several amendments to the 2014-2017 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) until Thursday, July 17. The BRTB will vote on the amendments on Tuesday, July 22, at 9 a.m.
The 2014-2017 TIP, which is the list of transportation projects requesting funding, includes more than $2 billion in proposed federal, state and local money for highway, transit, bicycle and pedestrian projects throughout the region during the next four years. The funding goes towards maintaining, operating and expanding the transportation system. The TIP is fiscally constrained.
The State Highway Administration, Carroll County and Baltimore City request amendments to the TIP to reflect additional federal funding for projects. Details are as follows:
The State Highway Administration proposes an additional $3.6 million be added to the engineering phase of the I-795 interchange study at Dolfield Boulevard in Baltimore County. The study will provide improved access to the planned growth and major employment corridor along Red Run Boulevard on the west side of I-795 and will address vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle accessibility at selected intersections.
Baltimore City Department of Transportation requests:
- An additional $1.36 million for design and construction services for the Greenmount Avenue reconstruction and resurfacing, from 43rd Street to 29th Street.
- A reallocation of $4 million for design and construction costs for a citywide guide sign replacement from the 2012-2015 TIP to the 2014-2017 TIP.
Carroll County proposes:
- To allocate $553,500 to replace the existing bridge on White Rock Road, over Piney Run.
- To provide $400,400 to replace the existing bridge on Bixler Church Road, over Big Pipe Creek.
- To allocate $2.9 million to replace the existing bridge with a new structure to Shepherds Mill Road, over Little Pipe Creek.
- To include $680,000 for cleaning, painting and maintenance of eligible county bridges.
Comments will be accepted during a public meeting on Tuesday, July 8, 4:30-7 p.m., at the Owings Mills branch of the Baltimore County Public Library, located at 10302 Grand Central Avenue; and on Wednesday, July 9, 5-7 p.m., at the 29th Street Community Center, located at 300 East 29th Street in Baltimore City.
